Alexander Roinashvili ( ka, ალექსანდრე როინაშვილი; also known by his Russified name, Alexander Solomonovich Roinov, russian: Александр Соломонович Роинов) (1846 – 1898) was the first Georgian photographer. He is known for his photos of the Caucasian landscapes and portraits of contemporary Georgian intellectuals. Born in the mountainous community of Dusheti, east Georgia, then part of the Russian Empire, Roinashvili took photographic classes at the Khlamov studio in Tiflis Tbilisi ( ; ka, თბილისი ), in some languages still known by its pre-1936 name Tiflis ( ), is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million pe ....
