Alexander Harvey II
Alexander Harvey II (May 3, 1923 – December 4, 2017) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Education and career Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Harvey was in the United States Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1947, and a Bachelor of Laws from Columbia Law School in 1950. He was in private practice of law in Baltimore from 1950 to 1966, and was an assistant state attorney general of Maryland from 1955 to 1957. Federal judicial service On September 9, 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson nominated Harvey to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland vacated by Judge Harrison Lee Winter. Harvey was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 22, 1966, and received his commission the same day. Alexander Gordon Cummins Harvey (31 December 1858 – 6 November 1922) was a British cotton manufacturer and merchant and Liberal politician. Career Gordon Harvey (as he was usually known) was born in Manchester the son of Cummins Harvey''Who was Who'', OUP 2007 who was a partner in the cotton yarn and cloth manufacturing firm of Fothergill and Harvey. Alexander Miller Harvey (November 24, 1867 in Richmond, Kentucky, Richmond, Kentucky – March 9, 1928 in Topeka, Kansas, Topeka, Kansas) was an American lawyer, politician, and author. Political career A lawyer from Topeka admitted to the bar in 1893, Harvey was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kansas in 1896 on the People's Party (United States), Populist ticket along with John W. Leedy and served from 1897 to 1899. In 1900 Harvey was again a candidate for lieutenant governor, on a Populist/Democratic/Free Silver Republican fusion ticket with John W. Breidenthal for governor; Breidenthal lost to incumbent governor William E. Stanley by 164,793 votes to 181,893. In 1904 Harvey was the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party candidate for US representative from the First District of Kansas; he lost to the Republican Party candidate, future vice president Charles Curtis. Thomas Alexander Harvey (March 10, 1941 – April 4, 2020) was an American singer, songwriter, author, actor, and radio host. History Alex Harvey was born in rural western Tennessee near Brownsville. In 1964, Harvey graduated from Murray State University in Kentucky with a master's degree in Music and Education, and he also studied acting in Los Angeles. Alex Harvey performed and recorded as a musician throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Harvey's songs have been recorded by many other significant artists such as Alan Jackson, Cymarron, Three Dog Night, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmy Buffett, Anne Murray, Eydie Gormé, Henry Mancini, Peggy Lee, and Sammy Davis Jr. Kenny Rogers alone has recorded eighteen Alex Harvey songs.
