Alexander Dabravolski
Alexander Alherdavich Dabravolski ( be, Алякс́андр Альѓертавіч Дабрав́ольскi; born November 23, 1958) is a Belarusian politician, lawyer, and radio physicist. He helped found the United Democratic Party of Belarus (UDPB) and became involved in the opposition, serving as the vice-chairman of United Civil Party (UCP) from 1995 to 2006. He is currently the director of the East European School of Political Studies and a member of the Political Council of the United Civil Party. Education and family Dabravolski was born in Sula, Stowbtsy District, Minsk Voblast, Byelorussian SSR, and attended Belarusian State University. In 1982, he graduated from the Radio Physical Department, and in 1995 he graduated from the department of law. His wife is a teacher and his son and daughter are both students. United Democratic Forces Of Belarus
The United Democratic Forces of Belarus ( be, Аб'яднаныя дэмакратычныя сілы Беларусі; russian: Объединённые демократические силы) is a coalition of political parties that oppose the presidency of Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994. It was the main opposition group during the 2006 presidential election and chose Alexander Milinkevich as their candidate. Official Belarusian statistics reported Milinevich gained 6% of the vote, however Belarusian opposition and critics from Western countries have not accepted the official results as legitimate and believe this is an example of election fraudulence. 2006 Belarusian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on 19 March 2006. The result was a victory for incumbent, President Alexander Lukashenko, who received 84.4% of the vote. However, Western observers deemed the elections rigged. 2001 Belarusian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on 9 September 2001. The election should have been held in 1999, but a revised constitution adopted in 1996 extended incumbent Alexander Lukashenko's term for another two years. Lukashenko was re-elected with 77.4% of the vote over two minor candidates. Voter turnout was 84%. A senior official for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe noted that the pre-election environment was "not democratic" and would not describe it as "free and fair". Constitutional Court Of Belarus
The Constitutional Court of Belarus is one of the top-tier courts in the eastern European country. Created in 1994, the Court is run under guidelines that were issued in 1997. The purpose of the court is to render justice in areas where the constitution has come into question, such as a local law contradicting the constitution. There are 12 judges that sit on the bench, with all having degrees in legal studies, as required by Belarusian law.
