Omar Elba (born September 19, 1983) is an Egyptian-American actor, best known for co-starring alongside Tom Hanks in the movie ''A Hologram for the King''. He also had a recurring role as Mark Green opposite Jessica Biel in the Limetown television series. Alexander Black (theologian)
Alexander Black DD (1789–1864) professor of Exegetical Theology in New College, Edinburgh. Black was a native of Aberdeen, where he received his education, first at the Aberdeen Grammar School, Grammar School, and afterwards at Marischal College. After passing through the Divinity Hall, he was appointed assistant to Dr Ross, East Church, Aberdeen, and he was subsequently presented to the Parish Church of Tarves, as successor to Duncan Mearns. Upon the death of David Brown (Free Church of Scotland), David Brown, Black in 1831 became his successor in the Professorship of Divinity in Marischal College. His knowledge of Hebrew and the cognate tongues procured him, in 1839, a place in a deputation sent by the General Assembly to Palestine. At the disruption, Black attached himself to the Free Church of Scotland (1843–1900), Free Church, and in 1844 was appointed to the chair of Exegetical Theology in the New College, Edinburgh, from which he retired in 1856. Alexander Black (architect)
Alexander Black (c. 1790 – 19 February 1858) was a Scottish architect, born in Edinburgh around 1790 who is mainly known for his association with George Heriot’s School, where he acted as Superintendent of Works for most of his active life. Life In 1832 he is shown as a surveyor living at 17 Calton Place in Edinburgh. He operated as an architect for George Heriot's School from 1833, taking over from Thomas Bonnar on his retiral. He is particularly noteworthy for his Heriot Trust Schools, built by the school to serve the poorer children of Edinburgh. His work is identifiable in its reuse of detailing from the main school particularly on the corner “quoins”. Two of the schools (Broughton Street and Cowgate/Pleasance) were notable for including their playground under the buildings behind an arcaded front, their being sited on tight urban plots with no space for conventional playgrounds. Alexander Black (surveyor)
Alexander Black (25 May 1827 – 13 March 1897) was a Scottish-born surveyor who worked for most of career in Victoria, Australia and was Surveyor General of Victoria for six years from 1886. Black was born at Arndilly, Banffshire, Scotland. After training as a land surveyor in Aberdeen and working locally, he migrated to Victoria in 1852. He worked in the Castlemaine goldfields then returned to Melbourne and joined the Victorian government survey office. His work included the survey of the Black-Allan Line—the eastern "straight-edge" portion of the border between the Australian states of New South Wales and Victoria. Black was appointed Surveyor General of Victoria on 1 July 1886 and held the position until his retirement in May 1892. He was elected a member of the Victorian Institute of Surveyors in 1877 and was president 1879 to 1880. Alexander Kamloop Black (1832 – December 14, 1913) was a political figure in Manitoba. He represented St. Pauls from 1876 to 1878 in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. He was born in Île-à-la-Crosse, the son of Samuel Black and Angelique Cameron. In 1859, Black married Margaret Miller. Alexander Black (1859–1940) was an American author, photographer, newspaper man, and the inventor of the pre-cinema “Picture Play” which debuted in 1894. Early life Alexander Black was born in New York City in 1859, the eldest child of Peter Black and Sarah MacCrae, both born in Scotland. After a grammar school education and teaching himself printmaking, became a reporter at the Brooklyn Eagle. In 1878 at the age 19 he toured Europe for three months keeping a detailed sketchbook.
