There have been five baronetcies created for persons with the surname Alexander, one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and four in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Baronetage Of Nova Scotia
Baronets are a rank in the British aristocracy. The current Baronetage of the United Kingdom has replaced the earlier but existing Baronetages of England, Nova Scotia, Ireland, and Great Britain. Baronetage of England (1611–1705) King James I created the hereditary Order of Baronets in England on 22 May 1611, for the settlement of Ireland. He offered the dignity to 200 gentlemen of good birth, with a clear estate of £1,000 a year, on condition that each one should pay a sum equivalent to three years' pay to 30 soldiers at 8d per day per man (total – £1,095) into the King's Exchequer. The Baronetage of England comprises all baronetcies created in the Kingdom of England before the Act of Union in 1707. Earl Of Stirling
Earl of Stirling was a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created on 14 June 1633 for William Alexander, 1st Viscount of Stirling. He had already been created a Baronet, of Menstrie, Clackmannanshire in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 12 July 1625, then Lord Alexander of Tullibody and Viscount of Stirling on 4 September 1630, then Earl of Dovan in 1639. He was made Viscount of Canada at the same time that he was granted the earldom of Stirling. The other peerage titles were also in the Peerage of Scotland. Cable-Alexander Baronets
The Alexander, later Cable-Alexander Baronetcy, of the City of Dublin, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 11 December 1809 for William Alexander, Lord Mayor of Dublin. The second Baronet was a Director of the Bank of Ireland. The third Baronet was Attorney-General to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. The seventh Baronet assumed in 1931 by deed poll the additional surname of Cable. As of 31 December 2013 the present Baronet has not successfully proven his succession and is therefore not on the Official Roll of the Baronetage, with the baronetcy considered dormant. Sir Claud Alexander, 2nd Baronet (1867–1945) The Alexander, later Hagart-Alexander Baronetcy, of Ballochmyle, in the parish of Mauchline, in the County of Ayr, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 22 January 1886 for Major-General Claud Alexander, who served in the Crimean War and represented Ayrshire South in Parliament as a Conservative. Sir Douglas Alexander, 1st Baronet
Sir Douglas Alexander, 1st Baronet (4 July 1864 – 22 May 1949) was a British-born Canadian industrialist. Early life Alexander was born in Halifax, Yorkshire in England on 4 July 1864. He was the son of Andrew Alexander, a horticulturist and botanist. His parents emigrated to Canada when he was a child and he was brought up in Hamilton, Ontario. He was educated at the Hamilton Collegiate Institute and called to the bar in 1886. Career After practising for a few years in Hamilton, he joined the Singer Manufacturing Company as a clerk in 1891, where he was to stay for the rest of his career. In 1896, he was appointed to the board and moved to New York City. In 1905, he succeeded Frederick Gilbert Bourne to become the sixth president, holding the position until his death forty-four years later. Sir Frank Samuel Alexander, 1st Baronet (17 June 1881 – 18 July 1959) was a British shipowner and shipbroker. He was Lord Mayor of London from 1944 to 1945. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown.
