Sir Alexander Abercromby, 1st Baronet
Sir Alexander Abercromby of Birkenbog, 1st Baronet (c. 1603 – December 1684) was a Scottish politician. He was the oldest son of Alexander Abercromby of Birkenbog and his wife Elizabeth Bethune, daughter of David Bethune. On 20 February 1636, he was created a Baronet, of Birkenbog, in the County of Banff. Abercromby entered the Parliament of Scotland in 1640, sitting for Banffshire until the following year. He represented the constituency also in 1643 and after a break of three years, he was returned for it in 1646, a seat he held for the next two years. In 1661, he was again successful for Banffshire until 1663. Abercromby was a Covenanter and in 1645 took part at the Battle of Auldearn under command of John Hurry. He married firstly Jane Urquhart, daughter of Sir Thomas Urquhart, and had by her a son and three daughters. After her death, Abercromby remarried Jane Sutherland. Alexander Abercromby (Scottish Politician)
Alexander Abercromby of Glassaugh, Fordyce, Banffshire (5 November 1678 – 23 December 1728) was a Scottish Army officer and politician who sat in the Parliament of Scotland from 1706 to 1707 and as a Whig in the British House of Commons from 1707 to 1727. In 1699 he inherited Tullibody House east of Stirling from his cousin George Abercromby. He remodeled the house in 1710 and in 1719 additionally acquired the nearby Menstrie Castle. Abercromby was a book collector who had a significant private collection, and books bearing his bookplate can still be found in libraries today. Abercromby was the third, but eldest surviving son of Alexander Abercromby and his wife Katherine Dunbar, daughter of Sir Robert Dunbar, of Grangehill, Elgin. Banffshire was a constituency of the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1708 to 1800, and of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1983. Alexander Abercromby, Lord Abercromby
Alexander Abercromby, Lord Abercromby of Tullibody (1745–1795) was a Scottish advocate, judge and essayist. Life Abercromby was born in Tullibody House in Clackmannanshire on 15 October 1745, the fourth and youngest son of George Abercromby of Tullibody (1705-1800) and Mary Dundas. Two of his brothers entered the army; one of them became general Sir Ralph Abercromby. Alexander was the brother-in-law of Robert Bruce, Lord Kennet and James Edmonstone. Alexander studied law at the University of Edinburgh, where he seems to have been chiefly distinguished for his handsome person and engaging disposition. He was admitted a member of the Faculty of Advocates in 1766, and was soon afterwards (1770) appointed sheriff-depute of Clackmannanshire. However, personal residence was not required within the county served, and he continued the practice of his profession at the bar in Edinburgh. Alexander Abercromby (British Army Officer)
Colonel Alexander Abercromby, (4 March 1784 – 27 August 1853) was a senior British Army officer during the Napoleonic Wars. He also served for a short time as a Member of Parliament for Clackmannanshire. Biography Alexander Abercromby was the youngest son of Sir Ralph Abercromby, a British lieutenant-general noted for his services during the Napoleonic Wars and Mary Abercromby, 1st Baroness Abercromby. Born on 4 March 1784, Abercromby entered the army at an early age, and served as a volunteer with the 92nd Regiment in the expedition to the Helder in 1799. He soon obtained a commission, and saw service with his regiment in Egypt. He was appointed aide-de-camp to his father's old lieutenant and friend, Sir John Moore, during his command in Sicily in 1806, but was not with him in Spain.
