Alexander Walker (critic)
Alexander Walker (23 March 1930 – 15 July 2003) was a British film critic who wrote for the London ''Evening Standard'' from 1960 to the end of his life. He wrote 20 books. Life and career Walker was born in Portadown, County Armagh in Northern Ireland, the only son of Alfred, a commercial traveller, and Ethel Walker. He was educated at Portadown Grammar School, Queen's University, Belfast, the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium and the University of Michigan, where he lectured in political philosophy for two years from 1952. He worked for the ''Birmingham Post'' from 1953, where he was noticed by Godfrey Winn, who became a significant influence upon him as well as, later, Lord Beaverbrook and Lord Rothermere. The film critic of the London ''Evening Standard'' from 1960, he remained in the role until his death in 2003. Alexander Walker Scott
Alexander Walker Scott (10 November 1800 – 1 November 1883) was an Australian entomologist mainly interested in butterflies. Scott was the son of Dr Helenus and Augusta Maria Scott. He was born in Bombay, India and was educated at Bath Grammar School and Peterhouse, Cambridge, receiving a BA in 1822 and an MA in 1825. Scott was elected to the new Legislative Assembly, representing Northumberland and Hunter from 1856 to 1859, Northumberland 1858 to 1859 and Lower Hunter from 1860 to 1861. He supported the secret ballot and franchise extension. In 1861 he was nominated to the Legislative Council for life, but he took no part in it and resigned in 1866. A failed entrepreneur, he later became a prominent figure in the commercial establishment of the Newcastle region. Sir Alexander Walker II (1869 – 1950) was a Scottish businessman who was the younger grandson of John 'Johnnie' Walker of the whisky brand. He and his brother, George Paterson Walker, took the control of the company after the death of their father Alexander Walker in 1889. Biography Walker was born in 1869, the son of Alexander Walker. Alexander White Walker (15 November 1881 – 12 May 1916) was a Scottish professional footballer who played in the Scottish League for Heart of Midlothian and Motherwell as an inside right. He also played for Brentford in the Southern League. Personal life Walker was the younger brother of fellow Heart of Midlothian footballer, Bobby Walker. He served as a private in the Royal Scots during the First World War and died on 12 May 1916 from tuberculosis. Alexander Walker (1779–1852) was a Scottish physiologist, aesthetician, encyclopaedist, translator, novelist, and journalist. He was the founder and editor of ''The European Review'' (1824–26), a journal published in English, French, German and Italian, with many eminent contributors, such as Goethe and Cuvier.
