Alex Sanchez (pitcher)
Alex Anthony Sanchez (born April 8, 1966) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who played for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1989. Early life Sanchez was born in Concord, California and attended Antioch High School. In high school, he was named A-East Bay and All-Northern California for two years. ''USA Today'' named Sanchez one of the top 25 pro prospects, and he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs out of high school. Sanchez elected to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) instead. College career At UCLA, he set a single season all-time record for having 16 wins in one season in 1986. He was named co-Player of the Year in the Pac 10, and first team All-America by ''Baseball America'' in 1986. The 1987 Major League Baseball draft is the process by which Major League Baseball (MLB) teams select athletes to play for their organization. High school seniors, college juniors and seniors, and anyone who had never played under a professional contract were considered eligible for the draft. Larry Silveira (born October 12, 1965) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. Amateur career Silveira was originally a baseball player and played catcher for Antioch High School along with Major League Baseball pitchers Alex Sanchez and Jeff Pico. Silveira started his college golf career at San Jose State University where he won the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (now the Big West Conference) Conference Championship as a freshman. He then transferred to the University of Arizona where he was named a First Team All American in 1987 and 1988. During his time at Arizona he won five tournaments and in 1988 he won the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) (now the Pac-12 Conference) Championship and was also named the Pac-10 Player of the Year. Jeffrey Mark Pico (born February 12, 1966) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current coach. He played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs. Early life Pico was born in Antioch, California, and attended Antioch High School. His teammates included former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Alex Sanchez and PGA Tour pro Larry Silveira. In his sophomore year Pico posted a 7–3 season with a 1.53 ERA. Named Most Valuable Player during both his junior and senior years, the 6’2", 170-lb. pitcher had a 6–0 record in 1984 when the team won the North Coast championship.
