Alex Russell was a footballer who played as a midfielder in the Football League for Southport, Blackburn Rovers, Tranmere Rovers and Crewe Alexandra. He then had a three-year spell playing for non-league Formby. His debut was on 8 November 1975 at Witton Albion, a week before the debut of Ron Smith. Seaham
Seaham is a seaside town in County Durham, England. Located on the Durham Coast, Seaham is situated south of Sunderland and east of Durham. The town grew from the late 19th century onwards as a result of investments in its harbour and coal mines. The town is twinned with the German town of Gerlingen. History The original village of Seaham has all but vanished; it lay between St Mary's Church and Seaham Hall (i.e. somewhat to the north of the current town centre). The parish church, St Mary the Virgin, has a late 7th century. The Anglian nave resembling the church at Escomb in many respects, and is one of the 20 oldest surviving churches in the UK. Until the early years of the 19th century, Seaham was a small rural agricultural farming community whose only claim to fame was that the local landowner's daughter, Anne Isabella Milbanke, was married at Seaham Hall to Lord Byron, on 2 January 1815. Ron Smith (footballer, Born 1936)
Ronald Smith (born 7 June 1936) is an English former footballer who played on the left-wing. He scored 62 goals in 426 appearances over a thirteen-year career. Failing to make the grade at Liverpool, he transferred to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1959. He spent two years with the club before moving to Crewe Alexandra in July 1961. He helped Crewe to win promotion out of the Fourth Division in 1962–63, before he was sold on to Port Vale for a £6,500 fee in October 1963. In April 1965 he was allowed to join Southport, where he again won promotion out of the fourth tier in 1966–67. Following this he joined Altrincham, where he lifted the Northern Premier League Challenge Cup in 1970. Career Smith had trials with Stoke City, but after his discharge from National service he was signed to Liverpool on amateur terms in 1955.
