Alex Romeril
Alexander Edward "Porky" Romeril (December 29, 1893 – May 17, 1968) was a Canadian amateur ice hockey player, football player, National Hockey League referee, and the first coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Career Romeril played junior hockey with the Toronto Canoe Club, winning the Ontario Hockey Association championship in 1912 with Romeril playing rover. He was offered $70 a week to turn professional with the Toronto Blueshirts in 1912–13, but declined and played for the TCC senior team. During the First World War, Romeril played senior hockey with the Winnipeg 61st Battalion, winning the Allan Cup in 1916. After the war, Romeril played left wing for the senior OHA team from the Toronto Granite Club, called the Toronto Granites. Led by centre Harry Watson, the Granites won the Allan Cup in 1922 and 1923 (Romeril was injured and couldn't play in the 1923 series). Conn Smythe
Constantine Falkland Cary Smythe, MC (; February 1, 1895 – November 18, 1980) was a Canadian businessman, soldier and sportsman in ice hockey and horse racing. He is best known as the principal owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1927 to 1961 and as the builder of Maple Leaf Gardens. As owner of the Leafs during numerous championship years, his name appears on the Stanley Cup eight times: 1932, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1962. Smythe is also known for having served in both World Wars, organizing his own artillery battery in the Second World War. The horses of Smythe's racing stable won the Queen's Plate three times among 145 stakes race wins during his lifetime. Smythe started and ran a sand and gravel business. Mike Rodden
Michael James Rodden (April 24, 1891 – January 11, 1978) was a Canadian sports journalist, National Hockey League referee, and Canadian football coach, and was the first person elected to both the Hockey Hall of Fame (1962) and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (1964). He was an older brother of ice hockey player Eddie Rodden. Biography Born in Mattawa, Ontario, Rodden officiated in 1,187 National Hockey League games. As a football coach, he led the Hamilton Tigers to Grey Cup championships in 1928 and 1929. The Mike Rodden Arena and Community Centre in Mattawa is named in his honour. Rodden's primary occupation was sports journalist. He started working at the ''Toronto Globe'' (now ''The Globe and Mail'') as a reporter in 1918, rising to sports editor ten years later. Park Lawn Cemetery is a large cemetery in the Etobicoke district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It currently has around 22,000 graves. It is managed by the Park Lawn Limited Partnership, which also runs five other cemeteries in Toronto. The cemetery offers ground burials and a mausoleum for above-ground interment and cremation urns. It is located south of Bloor Street, west of the Humber River. Park Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum opened in 1892 as Humbervale Cemetery and was owned by local farmers in the area. It was sold in 1912 and again in 1915 to Park Lawn Cemetery Company, and was renamed to the current name. In 1999, Park Lawn opened Paradise Mausoleum; phase two of Paradise Mausoleum was completed in 2007.
