Alex Ribeiro Garcia
Alex Ribeiro Garcia, commonly known as either Alex Garcia, or simply as Alex (born 4 March 1980) is a Brazilian professional basketball player. He also represented the senior Brazilian national team. He is a 6'2" (1.88 m) 225 lb. (102 kg) shooting guard-small forward. Professional career Garcia has served two stints in the National Basketball Association as a member of the San Antonio Spurs ( 2003–04) and New Orleans Hornets ( 2004–05). He holds NBA career averages of 4.7 points per game and 1.8 assists per game. Garcia was promptly waived by the hornets after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury vs. the Washington Wizards on December 12, 2004. Garcia has also played with UniCEUB/BRB and several other clubs of the top-tier level Brazilian League. Basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games took place at the indoor arena in the Autódromo de Jacarépagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an arena which was built specially for the Pan Am Games. Brazil was the reigning Pan American champion in the men's competition, while Cuba defended its title in the women's competition. Each competition had eight teams divided in two groups. In each group, each team played against all others once and the two best advanced to the semifinals. The two latter in each group played in 5th to 8th classification matches. The 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Men, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Americas, at the 2012 Summer Olympics men's basketball tournament, in London. This FIBA AmeriCup tournament was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from August 30 to September 11, 2011. Argentina won the title, defeating Brazil, 80–75, in the final match. This was the country's second AmeriCup championship. Host FIBA Americas named Mar del Plata, Argentina the host of the 2011 competition on May 24, 2010 at a meeting in San Juan. Games were played at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas, which seats more than 8,000 fans. Toronto and Rio de Janeiro also bid for the tournament before FIBA awarded the competition to then world number-one ranked Argentina. The 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the continental championship held by FIBA Americas, for North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. This FIBA AmeriCup championship served as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Each of the top four finishers in the quarterfinal round robin qualified for the World Championship. Brazil won the gold medal, after beating host Puerto Rico, 61–60, in the title game. This was Brazil's fourth FIBA AmeriCup title, and second in the last three tournaments. At the time FIBA world number 1 ranked Argentina claimed the bronze medal, over fourth placed Canada. The FIBA AmeriCup (previously known as the FIBA Americas Championship) is the Americas Basketball Championship that takes place every four years between national teams of the Western Hemisphere continents. Since FIBA organised the entire Western Hemisphere west of the Atlantic Ocean under one zone, countries from North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America compete in this tournament. Through the 2015 edition, the Americas Championship took place every two years, and was also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup and the Summer Olympic Games. However, since 2017, the AmeriCup, along with all other FIBA continental championships for men are played once every four years. The 2015 NBB All-Star Game was an exhibition basketball game that was played on March 7, 2015 at Ginásio Pedrocão in Franca, São Paulo, home of Franca Basquetebol Clube. This game was the 7th edition of the NBB All-Star Game and was played during the 2014–15 NBB season. Frnaca was awarded for the third time to host the All-Star Game in an announcement by president Cássio Roque on February 6, 2015. The teams were formed by Brazilian players, called NBB Brasil (NBB Brazil), and by foreign players, called NBB Mundo (NBB World). The twelve players of each team were selected by the trade press, the teams' captains and coaches.
