Alex McKinnon (rugby League)
Alex McKinnon (born 5 February 1992) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer whose career was cut short by a spinal injury during a 2014 National Rugby League Premiership match against Melbourne. A Country New South Wales representative , McKinnon also played and . He started his career with the St. George Illawarra Dragons before moving to the Newcastle Knights in 2012. Early life Born in the Hunter Valley region of Aberdeen, New South Wales on 5 February 1992 to parents Scott and Kate McKinnon, he moved to St Gregory's College, Campbelltown in Grade 7 and played his junior football for the Aberdeen Tigers. He then signed with the St. George Illawarra Dragons. Professional playing career St. George Illawarra McKinnon played for the Dragons' Toyota Cup team from 2008 to 2010, playing in 41 games. The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Also known as the Blues due to their sky blue jerseys, the team competes in the annual State of Origin series. This annual event is a series of three games competing for the State of Origin shield. Kenneath Bromwich (born 22 September 1991) is a New Zealand professional rugby league footballer who plays as a forward for the Dolphins in the National Rugby League (NRL), and New Zealand at international level. City vs Country Origin was an annual Australian rugby league football match that took place in New South Wales between City and Country representative sides. The City side represented the Sydney metropolitan area. While technically it was Sydney vs. the rest of NSW, players from the Central Coast (such as Matt Orford and Mark O'Meley) often represented City, but other players from the Central Coast (such as Chris Heighington) represented Country. The Country side represented the rest of New South Wales.
