Wheelchair Curling
Wheelchair curling is an adaptation of curling for athletes with a disability affecting their lower limbs or gait. Wheelchair curling is governed by the World Curling Federation, and is one of the sports in the Winter Paralympic Games. Overview Wheelchair curling is played with the same rocks and on the same ice as regular curling, though the rocks are thrown from a stationary wheelchair and there is no sweeping. Rocks may be thrown by hand while leaning over the side of the wheelchair, or pushed by a delivery stick. This is a pole with a bracket that fits over the rock handle, allowing the rock to be pushed while applying correct rotation. Stones delivered between the house and the near hogline must be placed within 18 inches either side of the centre line and must be released prior to reaching the near hogline. David Telfer (born 1 December 1988 in Obuasi) is a Ghanaian footballer, who currently plays for Ashanti Gold SC. Career Telfer began his career in the AshantiGold Soccer Academy and was promoted to Ashanti Gold SC of the Ghana Premier League in January 2006. In August 2008 from Ashanti Gold SC out to Free State Stars, he joined with teammate Jonathan Mensah. Telfer returned to Ghana and registered for Ashanti Gold SC for the 2009–2010 season. He is an integral member of the team and produced several sterling performances. On 20 June 1994, Robin and Margaret Bain and three of their four childrenArawa, Laniet and Stephenwere shot to death in Dunedin, New Zealand. The only suspects were David Cullen Bain, the eldest son and only survivor, and Robin Bain, the father. David Bain, aged 22, was charged with five counts of murder. In May 1995, he was convicted on each of the five counts and sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment, life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of sixteen years. Bain's case was taken up by businessman and former Rugby football, rugby player Joe Karam.
