Alexander Colby Ellis (born February 10, 1993) is an American football tight end for the DC Defenders of the XFL. He was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tennessee. College career Ellis attended the University of Tennessee, where he played as a tight end for the Tennessee football team. Professional career Tennessee Titans On May 9, 2016, Ellis signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent. On September 2, 2016, Ellis was waived by the Titans as part of final roster cuts. Jacksonville Jaguars On September 5, 2016, Ellis was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. 2023 XFL Draft
The 2023 XFL Draft, is the player selection process to fill the rosters of the eight teams of the 2020 reboot of the XFL, and the second draft in that league's history following the 2020 draft. The draft was held on November 15–17, 2022, with results released through the XFL's social media channels. Structure The XFL 2023 draft pool consists of 1,700 players that are eligible. Of those, 528 players will advance to the preseason rosters. It will follow a "snake" format, with each position phase following a random order set prior to the draft, and that order reversing between odd and even rounds of the phase. In sports, the practice squad, also called the taxi squad or practice roster, is a group of players signed by a team but not part of their main roster. Frequently used in gridiron football, they serve as extra players during the team's practices, often as part of the scout team by emulating an upcoming opponent's play style. Because the players on the practice squad are familiar with the team's plays and formations, the practice squad serves as a way to develop inexperienced players for promotion to the main roster.
