Alessandro Casolani
Alessandro Casolani (1552–1606) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance period, active mainly in Siena. Biography He was also called ''Alessandro della Torre''. He was born at Siena, and was the pupil of Ventura Salimbeni and of Cristoforo Roncalli. His works are principally in the churches of Siena, but are also found in Naples and Genoa. He also etched one plate, a Madonna. His son, Ilario Casolani was also a painter. Among the pupils of Casolani are Bernardino Capitelli, Sebastiano Folli, and Giovanni Biliverti. Giovanni Biliverti (surname also written as Bilivelt and Bilivert or other variants) (Florence, 25 August 1585 – Florence, 16 July 1644) was an Italian painter of the late-Mannerism and early-Baroque period, active mainly in his adoptive city of Florence, as well as Rome. Life and work Biliverti was born as Jan Bilevelt. His father was Giacomo Giovanni Biliverti (born as Jacob Janszoon Bijlevelt) (1550–1603), goldsmith and hard-stone carver working for the Medici. After his father’s death in 1603, Giovanni worked in the studio of Lodovico Cigoli, following him in April 1604 till 1607 to Rome. There he worked in projects approved by Pope Clement VIII. In 1609 Bilivert joined the Medici-sponsored guild of artists, the ''Accademia del Disegno'' in Florence. Pietro Sorri (1558-1622) was an Italian painter active in Siena. Biography He first studied under Arcangelo Salimbeni (father of Ventura), and afterwards under Cavaliere Domenico Passignano, whom he accompanied to Venice. Several of his works are in Florence and other cities of Tuscany, particularly at Pisa; he painted landscapes and portraits as well as history. Sebastiano Folli
Sebastiano Folli (1568–1621) was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance period. He was a scholar of Alessandro Casolano, and a native of Siena. He distinguished himself by several frescoes in the churches at Siena, particularly the cupola of Santa Marta, and some subjects from the ''Life of St. Sebastian,'' in the church of that saint, painted in competition with Rutilio Manetti, to whose pictures they are in no way inferior. He visited Rome, and was employed in some considerable works for the Cardinal de' Medici, afterwards Leo XI. He died in 1621. Bernardino Capitelli
Bernardino Capitelli (1589–1639) was an Italian painter and etcher of the Baroque period. He was born in Siena. He became a pupil of Alessandro Casolani, and then of Rutilio Manetti, and between the years 1622 and 1637 was active in both at Rome and at Siena. Among his etchings are a ''Portrait of Alessandro Casolani'', a ''St. Anthony of Padua'' (1637), a ''Marriage of St. Catharine'' after Antonio Allegri, Correggio, a nocturnal ''Repose in Egypt'' after Rutilio Manetti, a ''Lot and his Daughters'' after Manetti.
