Aleppo Centre For Culture And Arts
The Aleppo Centre for Culture and Arts ( ar, مركز حلب للثقافة والفنون) is a proposed project for a cultural complex-institute in Aleppo, Syria. The complex will be home to the new National Library of Aleppo and the Aleppo Opera House. The location of the proposed complex is near the Saadallah al-Jabiri Square, at the heart of Aleppo city. The complex was scheduled to be constructed between 2003 and 2007 but the process was delayed for many years due to financial difficulties. In 2011, The Aleppo governorate announced for a new design competition in order to start the construction works. Due to the political turbulence in Syria, the outcome of the competition was never decided and the future of the project is still open. Saadallah Al-Jabiri Square
Saadallah Al-Jabiri Square ( ar, ساحة سعدالله الجابري, Sāḥat Saʿad Allāh al-Jābirī) is the central town square at the heart of the Syrian city of Aleppo. It is the most important square in the city, experiencing most of the celebrations and festivals in Aleppo. The square is named after former Prime Minister and statesman Saadallah al-Jabiri. The square and its surrounding buildings have been heavily damaged during October 2012 Aleppo bombings. After several renovations to the square, an "I love Aleppo" monument was built near the martyrs' memorial and later revealed on 29 July 2017. The National Library of Aleppo ( ar, دار الكتب الوطنية) is a Syrian national library in the northern city of Aleppo. It was opened in 1924, at the Islamic awqaf department in Khan al-Jumrok at the time of the French Mandate. History In 1924, a decision to open a national library in Aleppo was passed by the central government in Damascus to become a branch of the Arab Scientific Academy. Sheikh ''Kamel al-Ghazzi'' became the first director of the library. In 1937, the construction of the new library building was set in the Bab al-Faraj square, adjacent to the famous clock tower. The construction was completed in 1939. The inauguration of the new library building was delayed due to the circumstances during World War II.
