Alene S. Ammond
Alene S. Ammond (April 6, 1933 – June 4, 2019) was an American politician who served in the New Jersey Senate from the 6th Legislative District from 1974 to 1978. Known as the "Terror of Trenton," she campaigned on and remained committed to the promise to bring anything of public interest to the public's attention. Biography Ammond was born in 1933 in Jackson Heights, Queens. An attendee of Pace College and Hunter College, she worked as a ballet dancer in New York City while in college. She married Harold J. Ammond in 1957; they had two daughters and one son. Ammond's first foray into the political sphere was as New Jersey's first registered "public interest lobbyist" on behalf of her group dedicated to acting on behalf of Cherry Hill citizens, "The Cherry Hill League". ''Family Circle'' was an American magazine that covered such topics as homemaking, recipes, and health. It was published from 1932 until the end of 2019. Originally distributed at supermarkets, it was one of the " Seven Sisters," a group of seven traditional "women's service" magazines centered on household issues, along with ''Ladies' Home Journal'', ''McCall's'', ''Good Housekeeping'', '' Better Homes and Gardens'', ''Woman's Day'', and ''Redbook''. History ''Family Circle'' was first published in 1932. It was initially distributed for free at Piggly Wiggly supermarkets, until it was offered as a freestanding publication in 1946. Cowles Magazines and Broadcasting bought the magazine in 1962. The New York Times Company bought the magazine for its woman's magazine division in 1971. 1993 New Jersey Gubernatorial Election
The 1993 New Jersey gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 1993. Incumbent Democratic governor James Florio was narrowly defeated by Republican former Freeholder and 1990 U.S. Senate nominee Christine Todd Whitman following backlash from voters regarding tax increases that had occurred during Florio's tenure. Whitman became the first, and as of 2022, only female governor of New Jersey. Primary elections were held on June 8. In the Democratic primary, Governor Florio's only challenger, anti-tax activist John Budzash, was disqualified from the ballot after his signatures were alleged to be invalid. In the Republican primary, Whitman defeated W. Cary Edwards and James Wallwork in a three-way race. New Jersey's 6th congressional district is represented by Democrat Frank Pallone, who has served the district in Congress since 1993. The district includes the northern and eastern portions of Middlesex County and the coastal areas of Monmouth County, including towns along the Raritan Bay. Laskin (born June 30, 1936) is an American attorney, politician and judge who served in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature before being appointed to serve on the New Jersey Superior Court.
