''Dejazmatch'' Alemayehu Tewodros, often referred to as HIH Prince Alemayehu or Alamayou of Ethiopia (23 April 1861 – 14 November 1879) was the son of Emperor Tewodros II and Empress Tiruwork Wube of Ethiopia. Biography Alemayu's father, Emperor Tewodros II died by suicide after his defeat by the British, led by Sir Robert Napier, at the conclusion of the British Expedition to Abyssinia in 1868. After the Battle of Magdala, the young prince was taken to Britain, under the care of Captain Tristram Speedy. This was in accordance with the wishes of Tewodros II who had asked his wife, the Empress Tiruwork Wube, in the event of his death, to place his son under the protection of the British. Alemayehu Bezabeh Desta ( Amharic: አለማየሁ በዛበህ ደስታ; born c. 1986) is an Ethiopian-born athlete who represents Spain internationally. He competes in middle- and long-distance running on the track, and also in cross country. His brother, Sisay Bezabeh, is also a professional runner and represents Australia internationally. Alemayehu Eshete Andarge ( am, ዓለማየሁ እሸቴ አንዳርጌ; French pronunciation: Alèmayèhu Eshèté; June 1941 – 2 September 2021) was an Ethiopian singer. He had performed since the 1960s and primarily in Amharic. He had been nicknamed "the Ethiopian Elvis". Early life and career Alemayehu was born in June 1941 in Addis Ababa, where his father worked as a taxi driver. Alemayehu talent was recognized by Colonel Retta Demeqe, who invited the young singer to perform with Addis Ababa's famous Police Orchestra. He had his first hit "Seul" in 1961 before moving on to found the Alem-Girma Band with Girma Beyene. Over the course of 15 years, Alemayehu released some 30 singles until the arrival of the communist junta Derg. Alemayehu Shumye Tafere (1988 – 11 January 2013; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) was an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialised in marathon running. Born in Nazret, he took up running seriously in 2004 when he moved to Addis Ababa with the hope of emulating the success of Haile Gebrselassie. He made his marathon debut in 2008 at the Marathon del Riso in Vercelli and won the race in a time of 2:14:33.
