Aleksandra Zagórska
Lt. Col. Aleksandra Zagórska, firstly, Bitschan, secondly, Zagórska, aka Aleksandra Bednarz (born 24 April 1884 in Lublin, died 14 April 1965 in Warsaw) – was a lieutenant colonel in the Polish Armed Forces, a soldier in the Legions, organizer and commandant of the Voluntary Legion of Women and an independence activist. Background She was born the daughter of Antoni Lubicz-Radzimiński and Flora, née Dzięciołowska. She spent her childhood in Sandomierz. From 1894, she attended the preparatory course at Zamość, followed by secondary school in Radom, where she became an associate of the Polish Socialist Party, PPS. Independence Activism In 1904, she enrolled at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The same year she joined the Combat Organization of the Polish Socialist Party. Bródno Cemetery

Occupying an area of , it is the largest cemetery in Warsaw. With more than 1.2 million burials, it is one of the largest cemeteries in Europe. History At the end of the 19th century Warsaw's population was growing rapidly, and the available cemeteries were unable to cope with the demand. As a result, President of Warsaw Sokrates Starynkiewicz ordered land to be bought at Bródno in 1883. On 20 November 1884 the cemetery was consecrated by Archbishop of Warsaw, Wincenty Teofil Popiel. The cemetery was opened also to the citizens of the left-bank Warsaw in January 1885. The cemetery has been completely opened on 14 June 1887.
