Aleksander Orlov
Aleksandr Ivanovich Orlov (russian: Александр Иванович Орлов) ( St. Petersburg 18 August 1873 - Moscow October 10, 1948) was a Russian opera conductor, and People's Artist of the RSFSR (1945). He was the first head of the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of All-Union Radio (1930–1937). Biography Orlov studied violin at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, under P.A. Krasnokutske, and conducting under P.F. Juon in Berlin. From 1902 he worked as a symphonic and opera conductor in the cities of southern Russia. From 1912-1917 he was conductor of the Symphony Orchestra under Serge Koussevitzky in Moscow, and at the same time implemented a number of opera productions, 1914-1924. From 1925-1929 Orlov was Principal Conductor of Kiev State Academic Ukrainian Opera, and a professor of the Kiev Conservatory. His students included N. Rachlin. Aleksandr Yakovlevich Orlov
Aleksandr Yakovlevich Orlov (; 6 April 1880, Smolensk – 28 January 1954, Kyiv) was an astronomer and pioneer of geodynamics. Orlov studied at Saint Petersburg University, graduating with distinction in 1902. He subsequently developed his scientific background through study at the University of Paris, at the Lund University under Carl Charlier then at the University of Göttingen under with Emil Wiechert. In 1927, Orlov was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union; in 1934-38 he was a professor of astronomy at the P. K. Sternberg Astronomical Institute in Moscow. From 1938 to 1951, he again headed the Poltava Observatory, and in 1939 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He contributed the essay “Astronomic Utopias” to the 1928 book '' Life and Technology of the Future'' in which he discussed the possibility of settling on Mars and the Moon. ''Petrushka'' (french: link=no, Pétrouchka; russian: link=no, Петрушка) is a ballet and orchestral concert work by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. It was written for the 1911 Paris season of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes company; the original choreography was by Michel Fokine and stage designs and costumes by Alexandre Benois, who assisted Stravinsky with the libretto. The ballet premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet on 13 June 1911 with Vaslav Nijinsky as Petrushka, Tamara Karsavina as the lead ballerina, Alexander Orlov as the Moor, and Enrico Cecchetti the charlatan. Alexander Orlov (Soviet Defector)
Alexander Mikhailovich Orlov ( be, Аляксандар Мікалаевіч Арлоў, born Leiba Lazarevich Feldbin, later Lev Lazarevich Nikolsky, and in the US assuming the name of Igor Konstantinovich Berg; 21 August 1895 – 25 March 1973), was a colonel in the Soviet secret police and NKVD ''Rezident'' in the Second Spanish Republic. In 1938, Orlov refused to return to the Soviet Union due to fears of execution, and instead fled with his family to the United States. He is mostly known for secretly transporting the entire Spanish gold reserves to the USSR in exchange for military aid for Spanish Republic and for his book, ''The Secret History of Stalin's Crimes''. Alexander Sergeyevich Orlov
Alexander Sergeyevich Orlov (russian: Алекса́ндр Серге́евич Орло́в; 1 December 1938 – 8 March 2024) was a Russian contemporary historian and an author of several handbooks. He was a specialist on socio-political history of Russia in the 18th century, in the history of science and in education about that period. Orlov graduated at the historical faculty of the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (MGU) in 1965 and defended his candidates-thesis on the theme "Unrest in the Urals in the 1750s and 1760s and the expedition of Prince Alexander Vyazemsky" in 1971. His thesis was supervised by M.T. Belyavsky. He worked at the historical faculty from 1968. From 1995, he was director of the historical museum of the MGU.
