Aleksandr Nevskiy (russian: Александр Невский; born 21 February 1958) is a retired male decathlete from the Soviet Union. He set his personal best (8476 points) when finishing as runner-up at the annual Hypo-Meeting in Götzis on 20 May 1984. Decathlon
The decathlon is a combined event in Athletics (sport), athletics consisting of ten track and field events. The word "decathlon" was formed, in analogy to the word "pentathlon", from Greek language, Greek δέκα (''déka'', meaning "ten") and ἄθλος (''áthlos'', or ἄθλον, ''áthlon'', meaning "contest" or “prize”). Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged on a points system in each event, not by the position achieved. The decathlon is contested mainly by male athletes, while female athletes typically compete in the heptathlon. Traditionally, the title of "World's Greatest Athlete" has been given to the person who wins the decathlon. Siegfried Wentz
Siegfried "Siggi" Wentz (; born 7 March 1960) is a German former track and field athlete who competed in the decathlon. He is the 1984 Olympic bronze medallist, and a two-time World Championship medallist. Career Wentz was born in Rothenbach. In the 1980s and until 1990 he represented West Germany and belonged to the world elite in the decathlon. His most notable result was winning the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. At that event he scored 8412 points, his results for each of the events were 10.99s - 7.11m - 15.87m - 2.09m - 47.78s - 14.35s - 46.60m - 4.50m - 67.68m - 4:33.96 min. His personal best result of 8762 points in Filderstadt-Bernhausen on 5 June 1983, placed him third on the world all-time list at that time behind Jürgen Hingsen and Daley Thompson, and still ranks him 14th on the all-time list (as of 2018). A heptathlon is a track and field combined events contest made up of seven events. The name derives from the Greek επτά (hepta, meaning "seven") and ἄθλος (áthlos, or ἄθλον, áthlon, meaning "competition"). A competitor in a heptathlon is referred to as a heptathlete. There are two heptathlons – the men's and the women's heptathlon – composed of different events. The men's heptathlon is older and is held indoors, while the women's is held outdoors and was introduced in the 1980s, first appearing in the Olympics in 1984. Viktor Gruzenkin (sometimes spelled Viktor Grouzenkin) (born December 19, 1951) is a retired Soviet decathlete. His personal record in the decathlon is 8356 points, set in Kiev in 1984. On February 17–18, 1979 he set the world record in the Indoor Heptathlon at 5934 points, which he held for over a year, surpassing the record of Guido Kratschmer who had recently won the silver medal in the 1976 Olympics behind Bruce Jenner (now known as Caitlyn Jenner).
