Aleksandr Fomin (botanist)
Aleksandr Vasiljevich Fomin was a Russian botanist that lived during the reign of the Soviet Union. He studied ferns and seed plants. He was also a director of the Kiev University Botanical Garden; which was renamed after him, when he died. Biography He was born in the village of Ermolevka in Petrovsk, Saratov Oblast on (. From 1888 to 1890, Fomin along with Nicolaĭ Adolfowitsch Busch and Nikolai Ivanovich Kuznetsov, funded by the Russian Geographical Society, took several botanical and geographical expeditions to the Caucasus. In 1893, he graduated from Moscow University. In 1896, he became a graduate assistant at the Universität Dorpat (now known as the University of Tartu, Estonia). Foin, Busch and Kuznetsov later wrote 'Flora Caucasica critica' (Materially dlia flory Kavkaza : kriticheskoe sistematichesko-geograficheskoe izsliedovanie), which was published between 1901 and 1913. Petrovsk, Saratov Oblast
Petrovsk (russian: Петро́вск) is a town in Saratov Oblast, Russia, located on the Medveditsa River (left tributary of the Don) northwest of Saratov, the administrative center of the oblast. Nikolai Cholodny
Mykola Hryhorovych Kholodny ( ukr, Микола Григорович Холодний ; 22 June 1882 – 4 May 1953) was an influential microbiologist who worked at the University of Kyiv, Ukraine in the USSR during the 1930s. He is known for the Cholodny–Went model, which he developed independently with Frits Warmolt Went of the California Institute of Technology. Despite being associated with the same theory, the two men never actually met. Cholodny worked in the A.V. Fomin Botanical Garden, attached to the University of Kyiv. He was one of the pioneers of the concept that microbes adhere to surfaces, using the technique of first placing glass slides in earth for a measured time period, then using a microscope to examine the slides.
