Alexander Andreyevich Baranov
Alexander Andreyevich Baranov (russian: Алекса́ндр Андре́евич Бара́нов; 1747 – 1819), sometimes spelled Aleksandr or Alexandr and Baranof, was a Russian trader and merchant, who worked for some time in Siberia. He was recruited by the Shelikhov-Golikov Company for trading in Russian America, beginning in 1790 with a five-year contract as manager of the outpost. He continued to serve past the end date of his contract. In 1799 Baranov was promoted, appointed by the recently chartered Russian-American Company as Chief Manager, effectively the first governor of Russian America. He served until 1818. This was the early colonial period of expansion of settlements. He founded Pavlovskaya (Kodiak) and later New Archangel (Sitka), Russian colonies that were bases of the company in present-day Alaska. ''The Adventures of Buratino'' (russian: Приключе́ния Бурати́но; tr.:''Priklyucheniya Buratino'') is a 1959 Soviet traditionally animated feature film directed by the "patriarch of Russian animation", Ivan Ivanov-Vano, along with Dmitriy Babichenko and Mikhail Botov. It was produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow and is based on Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy’s ''The Golden Key, or Adventures of Buratino. Plot The film tells about the adventures of a small wooden puppet whose youngest viewers are familiar with the book where Carlo Collodi tells the adventures of Pinocchio. In fact, Burattino is a puppet in the first version of the novel. English dubs In 1984, an English dub of the film was recorded at Jim Terry Productions (the same people behind the first English dub of the Pinocchio anime). Army General Alexander Ivanovich Baranov (russian: Александр Иванович Баранов; born 13 May 1946) is a Russian general, and was the Commander of the North Caucasus Military District from July 2004 to May 2008. He is a recipient of the Hero of Russia award. Yandiev case In July 2006 the European Court of Human Rights found the government of Russia guilty of the failure to protect from ill-treatment and a violation of the "right to life" of an alleged Chechen rebel fighter, Khadzhi-Murat Yandiev. Key evidence in the case, according to court documents, was video footage filmed by a reporter for NTV and CNN television showing an army officer, later identified as Alexander Baranov, ordering soldiers to "finish off" and "shoot" Yandiev after an argument between the two. ''Ekaterina'' is a 2014 Russia-1 historical television series starring Marina Aleksandrova as the eventual Russian empress Catherine the Great. Alyaksandr Baranaw ( be, Аляксандр Баранаў; russian: Александр Васильевич Баранов; born 27 November 1974) is a retired Belarusian professional footballer. He works as a youth coach with BATE Borisov. Career Born in Minsk, Baranaw began playing football in Smena Minsk youth system. He played for FC Zarya Yazyl in the Second Division and joined Stroitel's senior team where he made his Belarusian Premier League debut in 1992.
