Alejandro González Yáñez
Alejandro González Yáñez (born 9 September 1956) is a Mexican politician affiliated with the Labor Party (PT), of which he was a founding member in 1990. He served as a senator for the state of Durango in the 64th and 65th Congresses (2018–2024). He also was a senator in the 60th and 61st Congresses and a federal deputy during the 59th Congress. From 1992 to 1995 he was the mayor of Victoria de Durango. The Senate of the Republic (), constitutionally the Chamber of Senators of the Honorable Congress of the Union (), is the upper house of Mexico's Bicameralism, bicameral Congress of the Union, Congress. It currently consists of 128 members, who serve six-year terms. History A bicameral legislature, including the Senate, was established on 4 October 1824. The Senate was abolished on 7 September 1857 and re-established on 13 November 1874. Under the regime of Porfirio Díaz (the Porfiriato: 1876–1910), many seats were given to elites and wealthy people loyal to the regime. During the Mexican Revolution, notably during the brief presidency of Francisco I. Madero, the Senate was left intact with Porfirian sympathizers, who blocked the president's attempts to pass reforms for the Revolution. Victoria De Durango
Durango (, ) is the capital and largest city of the northern Mexican state of Durango and the seat of the municipality of Durango. It has a population of 616,068 as of the 2020 census with 688,697 living in the municipality. The city's official name is Victoria de Durango, renamed in honor of the first president of Mexico, Guadalupe Victoria, a native of the state of Durango. The city is at an altitude of in the Valley of Guadiana. Durango was founded on 8 July 1563, by the Spanish explorer Francisco de Ibarra. During the Spanish colonial era the city was the capital of the Nueva Vizcaya province of New Spain, which consisted mostly of what became the Mexican states of Durango and Chihuahua.
