Alejandro De Loarte
Alejandro de Loarte (c.1590/1600 – 12 December 1626) was a Spanish painter, active during the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. He specialized in still-lifes. Life and work There is very little biographical information available and most of the dates in his life are approximations. We do know that his father, a painter named Jerónimo de Loarte, was probably his first teacher and survived him. At his death, he was in charge of a prestigious studio in Madrid and, just before his death in Toledo, named the artist Pedro Orrente as his executor. His religious paintings varied in quality; some were even copies. His style is closely related to that of Luis Tristán, and the influence of Orrente is obvious. A large canvas of "Saint Bernard with his Monks", in the convent of the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, once believed to be the work of Francisco Pacheco, has been reattributed to him. Francisco Pacheco
Francisco Pacheco del Río (bap. 3 November 1564 – 27 November 1644) was a Spanish painter, best known as the teacher and father-in-law of Diego Velázquez and Alonzo Cano, and for his textbook on painting, entitled ''Art of Painting'', that is an important source for the study of 17th-century practice in Spain. Bartolomeo Passerotti
Bartolomeo Passarotti or Passerotti (1529–1592) was an Italian painter of the mannerist period, who worked mainly in his native Bologna. His family name is also spelled Passerotti or Passarotto. Life and work From approximately 1550 to 1555, he lived in Rome, where he worked under Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola and Taddeo Zuccari. Upon returning to Bologna, he established a large studio and, from 1564 tp 1565, was engaged in painting a large altarpiece for the Basilica of San Giacomo Maggiore. In his later work, he turned to Tuscan models, such as Giorgio Vasari and Prospero Fontana. His last known work was ''The Presentation of Mary in the Temple'', from 1583, now at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna. Juan Sánchez Cotán
Juan Sánchez Cotán (June 25, 1560 – September 8, 1627) was a Spanish Baroque painter, a pioneer of realism in Spain. His still lifes and '' bodegones'' were painted in an austere style, especially when compared to similar works in the Netherlands and Italy. Life Sánchez Cotán was born in the town of Orgaz, near Toledo, Spain. He was a friend and perhaps pupil of Blas de Prado, an artist famous for his still lifes whose mannerist style with touches of realism the disciple developed further. Cotán began by painting altarpieces and religious works. For approximately twenty years, patronized by the city’s aristocracy, he pursued a successful career as an artist in Toledo painting religious scenes, portraits and still lifes. Luis Tristán
Luis Tristán de Escamilla, also known as Luis de Escamilla or Luis Rodríguez Tristán (c.1585, Toledo, Spain, Toledo - 1624, Toledo), was a Spanish painter in the mannerist style. Life and work He was born into a family of merchants and artisans. In 1603, he entered the workshop of El Greco, and remained there until 1606. He initially imitated his teacher's style to the extent that many of his works have been attributed to him and vice versa. After El Greco's son, Jorge Manuel Theotocópuli, Tristán is considered to be his principle follower. He then spent seven years in Italy, returning home around 1613. He would work exclusively in Toledo for the rest of his life. His post-Italian work showed the influence of the Caravaggisti and the general aesthetic approach of the Counter-reformation.
