Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005
The Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 () is an Act of the Scottish Parliament passed in 2005. It was the first piece of legislation dedicated to the Scottish Gaelic language and was seen as the first step by the Scottish Executive to provide a legislative framework for the use of Gaelic by Scottish Public sector authorities. It created a Gaelic Language Board, but created no general rights of citizens or obligations on statutory authorities to actually use the language. This is in contrast to the UK parliament's legislation for the Welsh Language (the Welsh Language Act 1993) which authorises the use of Welsh in public administration. Passage of the Act The bill was introduced into the Scottish Parliament on 28 September 2004 by Peter Peacock. On 21 April 2005 the Parliament voted unanimously to approve the bill. Alejandro Carrión
Alejandro Carrión Aguirre (11 March 1915 – 4 January 1992) was an Ecuadorian poet, novelist and journalist. He wrote the novel ''La espina'' (1959), the short story book ''La manzana dañada'' (1983), and numerous poetry books. As a journalist he published many of his articles under the pseudonym " Juan Sin Cielo." In 1956 he founded, along with Pedro Jorge Vera, the political magazine '' La Calle''. He directed the literary magazine '' Letras del Ecuador''. He received the Maria Moors Cabot prize (1961) from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism as well as the Ecuadorian National Prize Premio Eugenio Espejo (1981) for his body of work. Alejandro Bustillo (18 March 1889 – 3 November 1982) was an Argentine painter and architect who designed numerous buildings including iconic landmarks in Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, and Bariloche. Biography Born in Buenos Aires, son of María Luisa Madero and Dr. José María Bustillo, he completed his secondary school studies at Otto Krause Technical School. He later entered the School of Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires, where he also excelled as a painter, earning a first prize at the 1912 National Salon of Painters for a self-portrait. He graduated with a degree in Architecture in 1914. He obtained his first professional experience working on the design of estancias, the first of which was for Santiago Rocca in 1916. Alejandro Bermúdez Tamayo (born March 30, 1975) is a retired backstroke and medley swimmer from Colombia. He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1992. His best result was 13th place in the Men's 400 metres Individual Medley at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Alejandro Jacobo Betts (born Alexander Jacob Betts, 28 October 1947 – 13 March 2020) was a Falklands-born Argentine air-traffic controller and activist who worked with the Argentine government as a technical advisor on the Tierra del Fuego's Malvinas Question Provincial Observatory Advisory Council. Betts supported Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands and was a controversial figure in the Falklands as a result. Betts also was the older brother of Terry Betts, who served as a member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Council and assisted British forces in the Falklands War.
