Aleixo De Abreu
Aleixo de Abreu (; Alcáçovas do Alentejo, Portugal, 1568– Lisbon, Portugal, 1630) was a Portuguese physician and tropical pathologist. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Coimbra. Due to his notable work as a physician, he was sent to Angola, along with Afonso Furtado de Mendonça, to study the maladies, believed to be endogenous to that land, that seemed to be afflicting the Portuguese sailors. Having spent 9 years in Angola, Aleixo de Abreu became a recognized expert in the field of African maladies. He wrote extensive studies on scurvy, known at the time in Portugal as "the Angola disease" ( pt, mal-de-angola), which were later included in his Treaty of the Seven Maladies ( es, Tratado de las Siete Enfermedades), later published in 1623. Aleixo De Menezes
Archbishop Aleixo de Menezes or Alexeu de Jesu de Meneses (25 January 1559 – 3 May 1617) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Goa, Archbishop of Braga, Portugal, and Viceroy of Portugal during the Philippine Dynasty. Biographical sketch Aleixo was born on 25 January 1559. His father was Lord Dom Aloysius De Menezes, famous lord and family member of Kantlhield and mother Louisa de Norohna. After the initial education, he joined in the order of St. Augustine at the age of 15. He studied philosophy, rhetoric, theology and literature from the university Coimbra. Once, he was offered the status of the rector of the Coimbra academy, but he refused out of humility. Alexi’s desire was to work for the pastoral care of souls. Later he was appointed as the chaplain of the Portugal palace. He worked as the prior of the Augustinian monastery in santhralsa and ulsiponi. Pedro Aleixo (1 August 1901 – 3 March 1975) served as President of the Chamber of Deputies in 1937 and as the 16th vice president of Brazil from 15 March 1967 to 14 October 1969.
