Alec Mackie
John Alexander Mackie (23 February 1903 – June 1984) was an Irish association football, footballer who played as a defender for various clubs, including Arsenal F.C., Arsenal and Portsmouth F.C., Portsmouth in the English Football League. Football career Born in Monkstown, County Antrim, Mackie started out at Monkstown F.C., Monkstown and Forth River F.C., Forth River in Belfast, before being spotted by Arsenal F.C., Arsenal in 1922. It is suggested in many reports that Mackie demanded a pet monkey in place of a signing-on fee, a request Arsenal managed to satisfy thanks to chairman Sir Henry Norris (businessman), Henry Norris's contacts in international trade. Monkstown, County Antrim
Monkstown is a townland (of 811 acres) and electoral ward in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is within the urban area of Newtownabbey and the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area. The townland was previously called Ballynamanagh () It is also situated in the civil parish of Carnmoney and the historic barony of Belfast Lower. Monkstown is said to be the burial place of Fergus Mor Mac Eirc, king of Dal Riata. which suggests a religious house was established in the 5th century CE. It possibly became a grange- a farm that was managed by a monastery, and was possibly associated with the monastery at Woodburn in Carrickfergus. Thomas Robert Parker (19 November 1897 – 1 November 1987) was an English footballer and manager. Parker played as a right back for clubs Arsenal and Southampton in his playing career. As a manager he was at the helm of Southampton as well as Norwich City. Playing career Southampton Born in Woolston, Southampton, Parker began playing with local sides, such as Sholing Rangers and Sholing Athletic , before joining Southern League side Southampton as an amateur in 1918, just before the end of the First World War. In his first season for the Saints, he was playing in the War League and in friendlies, and made a total of 39 appearances, scoring 12 goals, of which 10 were penalties, thus making him the club's second highest scorer behind Bill Rawlings.
