Alec Farrow
Alexander Farrow (8 February 1894 – 15 September 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club and Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Farrow was born in Carlton, the second son of Robert William Johnston and Mary Ann Perry. He was attracted to the military during his schooldays, and so enlisted to fight in World War 1 as soon as he turned 18. Trained as a signaller, he spent the last two years of the conflict in the Middle East – where, like many of the Australian troops, he took every opportunity he could to kick a football. He returned to Australia in April 1919. Farrow commenced his VFL career at Melbourne late in the 1919 season. He proved himself a sure ball-handler at ground level and had an uncanny ability to read the ball as it spilt from packs. His disposal was accurate, and he took a good mark for his size. Hughesdale, Victoria
Hughesdale is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 14 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Monash local government area. Hughesdale recorded a population of 7,563 at the 2021 census. Just 2sq km in size, it is the smallest suburb in the City of Monash. Hughesdale is bordered by Poath Road to the west, Dandenong Road to the north, Warrigal Road to the east and North Road to the south. It is named after James Vincent Hughes, former mayor of City of Oakleigh who lobbied heavily for a new station for the area in the mid-1920s. History Hughesdale began, not as a Melbourne suburb, but as a suburban area of Oakleigh along the railway line between it and Murrumbeena. Punt Road Oval, also known by naming rights sponsorship as the Swinburne Centre, is an Australian rules football ground and former cricket oval located within the Yarra Park precinct of East Melbourne, Victoria, situated a few hundred metres to the east of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The oval is a former venue of the Victorian Football League (now Australian Football League), with 544 VFL/AFL premiership matches played there between 1908 and 1964.
