Alderano Cybo-Malaspina (1552–1606)
Alderano Cybo-Malaspina (9 December 1552 in Massa – 16 November 1606 in Ferrara) was an Italian nobleman. He was marquess of Carrara, count of Ferentillo, first Duke of Ferentillo from 1603, Roman Patrician and Genoese Patrician, Patrician of Pisa and Florence, Patrician of Naples and Noble of Viterbo. He was the only son of Alberico I, sovereign prince of Massa and Carrara, by his first wife Elisabetta della Rovere, but, despite being Alberico's heir, he never ascended the throne, having predeceased his father. Marriage and issue His advisors decided he should marry into the House of Este and so in 1580 he married Marfisa d'Este in Ferrara. She was the illegitimate but legitimised daughter of Francesco d'Este. Alderano Cybo (sometimes Alderano Cibo or Alderano Cybo-Malaspina) (16 July 1613 – 22 July 1700) was an Italian people, Italian Roman Catholic Church, Catholic Cardinal (Catholicism), Cardinal. He served as the Secretary of State of Pope Innocent XI. Early life Cybo was born 16 July 1613 in Genoa, the fifth of fourteen children of Carlo I Cybo-Malaspina, sovereign Prince of Duchy of Massa and Carrara, Massa and Carrara, and of Brigida Spinola (1587–1660), the daughter of the Marchese di Calice, Giannettino Spinola. As was the custom in his family (he was descended from Pope Innocent VIII and, through his grandmother Marfisa d'Este, from Pope Alexander VI, and was probably Innocenzo Cybo, Cardinal Innocenzo Cybo's adulterous great-great-grandson), Alderano and several of his siblings were destined for ecclesiastical careers.
