Alcy Jackson
Alcy Jackson (born 1955) is a former athlete who competed in football, track, and basketball. Jackson grew up in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from South Oak Cliff High School (SOC) in 1973. High School Sports At SOC, Jackson played three sports. In track & field, Jackson's best event was the 120 yard high hurdles; in his senior year, he ran that distance in 13.9 seconds, which was the fastest time in the state among high school sprinters that year, as well as the 4th fastest time in the country. In basketball, Jackson led a team that competed deep into the state playoffs. In football, he played quarterback and wide receiver on offense and was first team All State at defensive back. Southwest Conference
The Southwest Conference (SWC) was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at various times the conference included schools from Oklahoma and Arkansas. For most of its history, the core members of the conference were Texas-based schools plus one in Arkansas: Baylor University, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Austin. Southern Methodist University Football Scandal
The Southern Methodist University football scandal was an incident in which the Mustangs football program at Southern Methodist University (SMU) was investigated and punished for repeated violations of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations over a period of several years between the late 1970s and mid-1980s. The most serious violation was the maintenance of a slush fund used for "under the table" payments to players and their families to entice them to come to SMU to play. As an indirect result of SMU's repeated violations, the NCAA instituted a rule change to stiffen penalties for multiple rule violations over a certain period. Most notably the NCAA is now required to consider cancelling a school's season - a step known popularly as the "death penalty" - if a school's violations are severe enough. Grant Teaff
Grant Garland Teaff (; born November 12, 1933) is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at McMurry University (1960–1965), Angelo State University (1969–1971), and Baylor University (1972–1992), compiling a career college football record of 170–151–8. In his 21 seasons as head coach of the Baylor Bears football team, Teaff's teams won two Southwest Conference titles and appeared in eight bowl games. Michael Lynn Downs (born June 9, 1959) is a former American football safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Phoenix Cardinals. He played college football at Rice University. Early years Downs graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas. South Oak Cliff High School (colloquially referred to as SOC, pronounced "sock") is a public secondary school located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas, United States. South Oak Cliff High School enrolls students in grades 9- 12 and is a part of the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). Danny Joel Colbert (born December 15, 1950) is a former professional football player. Early life Colbert was born in Corsicana, Texas, grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1969. In high school, he starred in the long jump as well in football at running back and defensive back. At one 1969 national track meet in California, Colbert's long jump was 23 feet, 6.5 inches.
