Alclutha F.C.
Alclutha Football Club was a football club based in Dumbarton, Scotland. From 1883 the club was called Dunbritton Football Club. The name Alclutha derives from the Scots Gaelic name for the town, and means "rock of the Clyde". Dunbritton is an old form of Dumbarton, meaning "Britons' fort". History Dunbartonshire was a hotbed of the game in the early years of organised football in Scotland, with the county's three leading clubs of the era, Dumbarton, Renton and Vale of Leven all forming in 1872, emerging out of shinty clubs in local factories who were turned to the association game by the influence of Queen's Park F.C. Alclutha was formed in the same year, but did not have the same factory backing. It was therefore always in the shadow of the other Dunbartonshire clubs. The 1883–84 Scottish Cup was the 11th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Queen's Park won the competition for the seventh time after Vale of Leven could not field a team on the date fixed for the final due to player illness. Boghead Park
Boghead Park was a football ground in the town of Dumbarton, Scotland. It was owned by Dumbarton F.C., who played there for 121 years between 1879 and 2000. By the time the ground closed in 2000, it was the oldest stadium in Scotland that had been in continuous use. History Dumbarton first used Boghead Park in 1879. The club shared the first Scottish league championship in 1891 with Rangers, then became the first outright champions in 1892. The pitch was turned 90 degrees in 1913. After this the club constructed a tiny main stand, nicknamed the " Postage Box", which only had a capacity of 80 seats. It was replaced by a modern facility that held 303 people in 1980. The new stand was opened by Alan Hardaker, former secretary of the English Football League. Next to this stand was a small cover used by bookmakers when Boghead staged greyhound racing. The Dumbartonshire Cup was the championship trophy of the Dumbartonshire FA from its inception in 1884 until the organization disbanded in 1938. There was however an 'extra' playing of the competition in 1939, immediately after the outbreak of the Second World War, prior to the 'emergency' football leagues commencing. At its height in the 1880s, the competition was only second in importance to the Scottish Cup because three of the top teams of the time - Dumbarton, Renton and Vale of Leven - took part.
