Albuquerque Six-Guns
The Albuquerque Six-Guns were a professional ice hockey team playing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. They were in the Central Hockey League in the 1973-74 season only. They played in the Tingley Coliseum. They were set up as a farm team of the Kansas City Scouts but that team did not enter the National Hockey League until the following season. The Six-Guns were forced to look to other National Hockey League teams for players. Coached by John Choyce John Leslie Choyce (November 28, 1930 – January 1999) was a Canadian ice hockey coach. The Central Professional Hockey League was a minor professional ice hockey league that operated in the United States from 1963 to 1984. Named the Central Hockey League for the 1968–69 season and forward, it was owned and operated by the National Hockey League and served as a successor to the Eastern Professional Hockey League, which had folded after the 1962–63 season. Four of the CHL's initial franchises were, in fact, relocations of the previous year's EPHL teams, while the fifth came from the International Hockey League. Tingley Coliseum
Tingley Coliseum is an 11,571-seat multi-purpose arena in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Originally built as a rodeo and horse show auditorium, it is located at 300 San Pedro Drive N.E. It was home to the Albuquerque Six-Guns and New Mexico Scorpions ice hockey teams and the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League from 2005 to 2010. The latter two later relocated to the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho. It was also home to the New Mexico Slam basketball team from 1999 until they folded in 2001. Kansas City Scouts
The Kansas City Scouts were a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1974 to 1976. In 1976, the franchise relocated to Denver, and became the Colorado Rockies. In 1982, the Rockies relocated to New Jersey where they have since been known as the New Jersey Devils. The Adams Cup was awarded annually (from 1964 to 1984) to the championship team in Central Professional Hockey League (CPHL). Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. John Choyce
John Leslie Choyce (November 28, 1930 – January 1999) was a Canadians, Canadian ice hockey coach. For seven seasons (1971–1980) he was a head coach in the Central Hockey League (1963–1984), Central Hockey League (CHL). Choyce started his coaching career with the Kansas City Blues (ice hockey), Kansas City Blues in January 1971 when he was awarded the head coaching position during a mid-season shake-up that also saw Cliff Fletcher appointed as the team's new general manager. After coaching the CHL's Albuquerque Six-Guns during the 1973-74 season, Choyce was promoted by the NHL expansion Kansas City Scouts to the franchise's director of scouting. Choyce, who was born in Montreal, Quebec, was named the 1976-77 CHL Coach of the Year and was awarded the Jake Milford Trophy.
