Albrighton, East Shropshire
Albrighton is a large village and civil parish in Shropshire, England, northwest of Wolverhampton and northeast of Bridgnorth. The village has a railway station on the Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton Line, and close by is RAF Cosford and the M54 motorway. It is the most easterly settlement in Shropshire. Immediately to the north is the hamlet and parish of Donington, separated from Albrighton by Humphreston Brook. History Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Albricston(e)'' or the home/farm of Albric/Aethelbeorht, it received its charter granting Borough status in 1303, which was renewed in 1662 for rather unusual reasons. The charter declared that "because Albrighton (then) adjoined Staffordshire on the east, south and west sides, felons and other malefactors fled Staffordshire to escape prosecution because there was no resident justice of the peace in that part of Shropshire" and on account of its remoteness from Shrewsbury, Shropshire's county town. Albrighton, Pimhill
Albrighton is a small village in the civil parish of Pimhill, in Shropshire, England. It is situated on the A528 road, A528 Shrewsbury-Ellesmere, Shropshire, Ellesmere road and is roughly north of Shrewsbury. After a history of being its own parish, it currently lies in the parish of Pimhill. According to the 2001 United Kingdom census, the parish population of Pimhill was 2008, with the number of these habiting in Albrighton being 273. It is first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, as Etbritone ("Ēadbeorht's settlement"). Albright Hussey was once part of the same Manorialism, manor, and indeed shared the same name originally. History Until 1886, Albrighton was traditionally a chapelry in the parish of Shrewsbury St. Mary, because of the close proximity, along with other small local villages Wollascott and Leaton. The Albrighton Hunt is a United Kingdom foxhound pack, with hunting country of around 30-35 miles by within Shropshire and Staffordshire. History The Albrighton Hunt was preceded by two hunts in the North and South country, called the Shifnal and Enville respectively. There are records of the Enville hunt from 1792, while the Shifnal country was frequently hunted by Sir Richard Puleston from the neighbouring Wynnstay country. The hunt itself came into existence in 1825, with the country then covering from Newport down to Bewdley and Kidderminster. The existing hunt came into formal existence in 1830, under the patronage of the Earl of Stamford. Country The hunt country lies in Shropshire and Staffordshire, with key centres including Stafford and Newport.
