Albertus Pictor
Albertus Pictor (English, "Albert the Painter"; Immenhusen, c. 1440 – c. 1507), also called Albert Pictor, Albert Målare and Albrekt Pärlstickare (Swedish), is the most famous late medieval Swedish painter, known for his wallpaintings surviving in numerous churches in southern and central Sweden. Celebrations for the quincentenary of his death were arranged for 2009. Career Albertus was originally called ''Albertus Immenhusen'', after the German town of Immenhausen in Hessen of which he was a native. He occurs in Swedish historical sources from 1465, when he was admitted a burgher of Arboga. Eight years later he moved to Stockholm, where, in accordance with current practice, he took over the workshop as well as the widow of a deceased painter. Immenhausen
Immenhausen () is a town in the district of Kassel, in Hesse, Germany. It is located 12 km north of Kassel on the German Timber-Frame Road. The town has 7,098 inhabitants as of July 2020, including the northern village of Mariendorf and eastern village of Holzhausen. Geography The Holzkape, a tributary of the Esse (Diemel) river, flows through Immenhausen. The Osterbach, a tributary of the Fulda, flows through the village Holzhausen. Immenhausen is bordered by the villages of Grebenstein to the north and west, Espenau to the south, Fuldatal to the southeast, and the unincorporated Reinhardswald area to the east. Death (personification)
Death is frequently imagined as a personified force. In some mythologies, a character known as the Grim Reaper (usually depicted as a berobed skeleton wielding a scythe) causes the victim's death by coming to collect that person's soul. Other beliefs hold that the Spectre of Death is only a psychopomp, serving to sever the last ties between the soul and the body, and to guide the deceased to the afterlife, without having any control over when or how the victim dies. Flodafors
Flodafors is a small village in Katrineholm Municipality in Södermanland County, Sweden. Flodafors is often called Floda for convenience. Neighbouring villages include Bie and Valla. The village is located on the Western Main Line between Katrineholm and Flen. Floda is well known for Floda Church (''Floda kyrka''). Ed Church, Uppland
Ed Church ( sv, Eds kyrka) is a Lutheran church about 3 km southwest of the centre of Upplands Väsby, Stockholm County, Sweden. It belongs to the Diocese of Stockholm. It is a listed building, protected by law. History and architecture Construction of the church started in the 12th century, and it was expanded during the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1487, the interior of the church was decorated with frescos by Albertus Pictor. During Catholic times, the church was dedicated to Saint Olaf. Reconstruction works were carried out in 1768. The tower was made higher, the windows enlarged and several medieval elements removed. The frescos were covered with whitewash. Architect Jean Eric Rehn designed parts of the new interior elements, notably the pulpit. The reconstruction was supported by Charles De Geer, who also supported reconstruction works at nearby Hammarby and Fresta churches. Danmark Church
Danmark Church ( sv, Danmarks kyrka) is a church located in the minor locality of Danmark in Uppsala Municipality, Sweden, some 8 kilometers southeast of Uppsala. History The church is first attested in writing in 1291. In proximity to the church are several runestones, featuring Christian inscriptions and crosses. The church itself is a brick building, the oldest parts of which stem from the 14th century. Bälinge Church ( sv, Bälinge kyrka) is a medieval church in Bälinge, Uppsala Municipality, Sweden. It is part of the Archdiocese of Uppsala (Church of Sweden). Bromma Church
Bromma kyrka is a round church in the borough Bromma in Stockholm, Sweden. The oldest parts of the church were built in the later 12th century as a fortress church, and the church is among Stockholm's oldest buildings. Today it has seven parts: roundhouse, nave, choir, sacristy, grave choir, weaponhouse and crypt. History Originally the church consisted of the round house and a choir on the east side. Max Von Sydow
Max von Sydow ( , ; born Carl Adolf von Sydow; 10 April 1929 – 8 March 2020) was a Swedish-French actor. He had a 70-year career in European and American cinema, television, and theatre, appearing in more than 150 films and several television series in multiple languages. The Seventh Seal
''The Seventh Seal'' ( sv, Det sjunde inseglet) is a 1957 Swedish historical fantasy film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. Set in Sweden during the Black Death, it tells of the journey of a medieval knight (Max von Sydow) and a game of chess he plays with the Death (personification), personification of Death (Bengt Ekerot), who has come to take his life. Bergman developed the film from his own play ''Wood Painting''. The title refers to a passage from the Book of Revelation, used both at the very start of the film, and again towards the end, beginning with the words "And when Lamb of God, the Lamb had opened the Seven seals, seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour".
