Biography Alberts was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, United States. He graduated from Gettysburg High School in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1968, and was selected to play the Big 33 Football Classic as a wide receiver. Following high school, he played football and baseball at the University of Cincinnati. He was the 28th round pick in the 1972 amateur draft of the Pittsburgh Pirates. His only major league appearances occurred with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1978. He appeared in six games for the Blue Jays, hitting .278 for his career. Playing career Alberts played for Ajax's third team and had stints at French outfit Clermont Foot and in the NASL with Vancouver Whitecaps. He finished his career in the Swedish league. August Peterson Alberts (September 1860 – May 7, 1912) was an American infielder in Major League Baseball from 1884 to 1891. He played for the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1884), Cleveland Blues (1888), and the Milwaukee Brewers (1891) of the American Association and very briefly for the Washington Nationals of the Union Association (1884). Alberts threw and batted right-handed. He was 5'6 ½" and 180 lbs. In 120 games he batted .197 (84-for-426) and scored 62 runs. An average third baseman and shortstop for the times, he had a fielding percentage of .867. Of the 120 appearances, 102 of those games were with the Cleveland Blues in 1888. With them, he had a .206 batting average and 26 stolen bases. Alberts was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He died suddenly at the age of 52 near the Brunswick Flats area in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Gert Andries Jacobus Alberts (born 3 January 1836 in Swellendam – died 29 March 1927 in Humpata) was the leader of the First Dorsland Trek. He was a member of the Gereformeerde Kerk (or 'Dopper' church) and served as a church elder (‘kerkraadslid’). Elected leader of the trekkers, he left Pretoria on 27 May 1874. Alberts led ten families across the Kalahari, taking 50 oxwagons and 1,400 cattle with them. He split the trek in three groups, with a two-day interval between them, to avoid overcrowding the rare waterholes along the path. Three families turned back before they crossed the Kgalagadi Desert, where a handful of cattle were lost during the waterless journey. Reaching Lake Ngami on 29 April 1875, they demanded Hendrik van Zyl, a trader based in Ghanzi with a reputation for ruthlessness, access to his wells, but he initially refused.
