Alberto Savino
Alberto Savino (born 1 September 1973) is an Italian former footballer who played for Nola as a defender. Career Born in Pompei, the Province of Naples, Savino started his professional career at Serie C2 side Savoia which is based in Torre Annunziata, located in the Province of Naples. In the summer of 1995, he was signed by Serie B side Brescia. He made his league debut on 10 September 1995, substituting Giandomenico Costi, in the 31st minute. He played for Brescia for 4 seasons, winning a Serie B championship and Serie A promotion in 1997, and followed the team as they were relegated back to Serie B in 1998. After Brescia failed to promoted back to Serie A, Savino was sold to Lecce in co-ownership deal in 1999, at the end of the 1998–99 season, during which Lecce won promotion to Serie A as Serie B 3rd place. Lega Pro Prima Divisione was the third highest football league in Italy. It consisted of 33 teams, divided geographically into two divisions of 16 and 17 teams for group A and B respectively. Until 2008 it was known as Serie C1. Before the 1978–79 season there were only three leagues of professional football in Italy, the third being Serie C. In 1978, it was decided to split Serie C into Serie C1 and Serie C2. The Serie D () is the top level of semi-professional football in the country. The fourth tier of the Italian league system, the competition sits beneath the third professional league, Serie C. It is administered by the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti and is organized by the Roman ''Comitato Interregionale'' (Interregional Committee), a "league in the league" inside the LND. Teams Arezzo, Catanzaro, Cesena and Crotone had been promoted from Serie C, while Perugia, Modena, and Empoli had been relegated from Serie A, and Ancona had lost their national professional licence. Lorenzo Stovini (born 24 November 1976) is a former Italian footballer who played as a defender. Career He made his Serie A debut on 31 August 1997 playing for Vicenza against Sampdoria in Stadio Luigi Ferraris (3–1). In the past, he was also Lecce captain. The 2002–03 Serie B was the 71st season since its establishment in 1929. It is the second highest football league in Italy. Teams Livorno, Ascoli, Triestina and Catania had been promoted from Serie C, while Hellas Verona, Lecce, and Venezia had been relegated from Serie A and Fiorentina had lost their national professional licence. Final classification In June 2003, Catania was at the centre of a controversy that led to the enlargement of Serie B from 20 to 24 teams, known as ''Caso Catania''. The club claimed that Siena fielded an ineligible player in a 1–1 tie, a result which saw Catania relegated, whereas the two extra points from a victory would have kept them safe.
