Alberto Miralles
Alberto Miralles Grancha (23 September 1940 – 3 March 2004) was a Spanish dramatist, the author of some 40 plays. Biography He was born in Elche, but moved to Barcelona at a young age, where he majored in Romance Philology and graduated with a degree in drama and stage direction from the Institut del Teatre of Barcelona . He was also a technical chemical engineer at the School of Chemical Experts in Barcelona. In 1967, he created the Cathar group, including actors such as Mercedes Sampietro and Jeannine Mestre. In 1975 he moved to Madrid, forcing the dissolution of the Cathar and the beginning of a new phase in its theatrical life. In 1979, he began to teach in the TAI School of Madrid, working with playwrights such as Adolfo Marsillach on Peter Weiss' ''Marat/Sade'', which won the Premio Especial Ciclo del Teatro Latino, and ''Las arrecogías del beaterio de Santa María Egipciaca'' by José Martín Remember. A playwright or dramatist is a person who writes plays. Etymology The word "play" is from Middle English pleye, from Old English plæġ, pleġa, plæġa ("play, exercise; sport, game; drama, applause"). The word "wright" is an archaic English term for a craftsman or builder (as in a wheelwright or cartwright). The words combine to indicate a person who has "wrought" words, themes, and other elements into a dramatic form—a play. (The homophone with "write" is coincidental.) The first recorded use of the term "playwright" is from 1605, 73 years before the first written record of the term "dramatist". It appears to have been first used in a pejorative sense by Ben Jonson to suggest a mere tradesman fashioning works for the theatre. The National Dramatic Literature Award of Spain ( es, Premio Nacional de Litertura Dramática, links=no) is a cultural prize that is awarded annually by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
