The Communist Party of Cuba ( es, Partido Comunista de Cuba, PCC) is the sole ruling party of Cuba. It was founded on 3 October 1965 as the successor to the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution, which was in turn made up of the 26th of July Movement and Popular Socialist Party that seized power in Cuba after the 1959 Cuban Revolution. The party governs Cuba as an authoritarian one-party state where dissidence and political opposition are prohibited and repressed. The Cuban constitution ascribes the role of the party to be the " leading force of society and of the state". The highest body within the PCC is the Party Congress, which convenes every five years. When the Congress is not in session, the Central Committee is the highest body. ''Granma'' is the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. It was formed in 1965 by the merger of two previous papers, (from Spanish: "Revolution") and ("Today"). Publication of the newspaper began in February of 1966. Its name comes from the yacht '' Granma'' that carried Fidel Castro and 81 other rebels to Cuba's shores in 1956, launching the Cuban Revolution. The newspaper has been a way for the Cuban Communist Party to communicate their ideology to the world, especially in regards to the United States. Marta Rojas worked for the paper since its founding. The Workers Central Union of Cuba ( es, Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, CTC) is the trade union federation in Cuba. It originated as the ''Confederación de Trabajadores de Cuba'' (Confederation of Cuban Workers) in 1939 and changed its name to the Central Union of Cuban Workers in 1961. It is located in the central region of the island bordering with the Atlantic at north, Matanzas Province by west, Sancti Spiritus Province by east, and Cienfuegos Province on the South. es, consejo popular, lit=Popular Council, People's Council (sometimes shorten to CP) commonly stated as a ward is an electoral ward or "political-administrative demarcations" of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba. They were created in 1988 and there are a total of 474 wards as of 2023. They also work as subdivisions, under municipalities. Most rural wards include 1 major town or village (usually with a population of 700-3000) with a few hamlets, while urban areas (usually municipal seat) are usually split into a few wards, named the city name with a I, II and sometimes III, and IV (an example is Camajuaní II).
