Alberta Education
Alberta Education (also known as the Ministry of Education) is the Albertan ministry responsible for early childhood education, primary education, and secondary education in Alberta. This is one of the original portfolios in the Government of Alberta: the first Minister of Education was part of the original cabinet in 1905, and that title existed continuously until 1999. The ministry was briefly merged with Alberta Advanced Education to form Alberta Learning from 1999 to 2004, but was recreated under its original name in 2004. Intra-ministerial organization The Minister of Education is appointed by the Premier of Alberta. The Ministry is then divided into three organizations: the Alberta School Foundation Fund, the Department of Education, and the school jurisdictions of Alberta, which operate in an arms-length fashion to the ministry. Adriana LaGrange
Adriana LaGrange (born 1961 or 1962) is a Canadian politician elected in the 2019 Alberta general election to represent the electoral district of Red Deer-North in the 30th Alberta Legislature. Originally from Ontario, LaGrange moved to Red Deer in 1981. LaGrange was elected on April 16, 2019, and was appointed as the Minister of Education on April 30, 2019. In the 2019 Alberta general election, LaGrange won her constituency with a total of 12,739 votes based on a 62.6% voter turnout in Red Deer-North. Career LaGrange received a diploma in Rehab Studies from Humber College, and worked with the mentally and physically disabled before entering the political arena. Early childhood education (ECE), also known as nursery education, is a branch of education theory that relates to the teaching of children (formally and informally) from birth up to the age of eight. Secondary Education
Secondary education or post-primary education covers two phases on the International Standard Classification of Education scale. Level 2 or lower secondary education (less commonly junior secondary education) is considered the second and final phase of basic education, and level 3 (upper) secondary education or senior secondary education is the stage before tertiary education. Every country aims to provide basic education, but the systems and terminology remain unique to them. Secondary education typically takes place after six years of primary education and is followed by higher education, vocational education or employment. Alberta Advanced Education
Alberta Advanced Education (also known as the Ministry of Advanced Education) is a ministry in the Executive Council of Alberta. Alberta Advanced Education is responsible for the public funding of post-secondary institutions in the province, in addition to loans and grants for post-secondary students. The ministry has existed in its current form since 2004. However, two other ministries with the same title existed from 1971–1975 and 1983–1992.
