Albert Trim
Albert Trim (6 October 1875 – 11 July 1954) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne and Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football A defender from Beechworth, Trim played in Beechworth's 1897 Ovens & Murray Football League premiership side. Trim played in South Melbourne's losing 1899 VFL Grand Final team and captained his club for the 1901 season. He spent his final two league seasons at Carlton and appeared in another losing Grand Final in 1904. During 1899, 1903 and 1904, Trim represented the VFL at interstate football. In 1905 he moved to Western Australia and played for South Fremantle. He was elected captain during the season and held the position until the end of 1906. Beechworth
Beechworth is a well-preserved historical town located in the north-east of Victoria, Australia, famous for its major growth during the gold rush days of the mid-1850s. At the , Beechworth had a population of 3,859. Beechworth's many historical buildings are well preserved and the town has re-invented itself and evolved into a popular tourist destination and growing wine-producing centre. History Beechworth Parish and Township plans were prepared, named and certified by George D Smythe after he had left the family estate near Liverpool in 1828, then again near Launceston, Tasmania in 1838. Originally used for grazing by the settler David Reid, the area was also sometimes known as Mayday Hills until 1853. 1899 VFL Grand Final
The 1899 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Fitzroy Football Club and South Melbourne Football Club, held at the St Kilda Cricket Ground in Melbourne, on 16 September 1899, to determine the premiership team for the 1899 VFL season It was the second annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League. The match, attended by 4,823 spectators, was won by Fitzroy by a margin of 1 point, becoming the first club to claim back-to-back VFL premierships. Lead-up Fitzroy had won the minor premiership in the 1899 season, while South Melbourne had finished sixth after the home-and-away season. In the sectional rounds, Fitzroy and South Melbourne each finished with records of 3–0 to qualify for the final. The Footballers' Alphabet
On Saturday 23 July 1898, the Melbourne weekly newspaper '' The Leader'' published ''The Footballers' Alphabet''. The poem, which had been written by its influential (Australian Rules) football correspondent, "Follower", delivered a brief comment on a number of the most prominent Australian Rules footballers playing in Melbourne in 1898 -- the second year of the VFL competition -- presented in the alphabetical order of their family names. Given the poem’s subject and its novelty, it was very popular, and it was republished in a number of different newspapers, including ''The Age'', and ''The Ovens and Murray Advertiser''. South Fremantle Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Fremantle, Western Australia. The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground.
