Albert Sewell
Albert Sewell (1927 – 2018) was an English football statistician best known for his work with Chelsea F.C. and BBC Sport. Sewell left school at 16 and his first job was in the sports section at the ''Daily Sketch''. After World War II he became a trainee journalist for the Press Association. In 1949, he was given the job of writing Chelsea's match programme, which had been expanded from a pamphlet to a similar length of modern programmes. He also wrote several books about Chelsea and football in general, among them the official guide to the club's 1954–55 Chelsea F.C. season, 1954–55 title-winning season. From its inception in 1968 until 2005, Sewell worked as a statistician for the BBC's ''Match of the Day'', providing notes on match statistics to the presenters, commentators and pundits. Daily Sketch
The ''Daily Sketch'' was a British national tabloid newspaper, founded in Manchester in 1909 by Sir Edward Hulton. It was bought in 1920 by Lord Rothermere's Daily Mirror Newspapers, but in 1925 Rothermere sold it to William and Gomer Berry (later Viscount Camrose and Viscount Kemsley). It was owned by a subsidiary of the Berrys' Allied Newspapers from 1928Dennis Griffiths (ed.). ''The Encyclopedia of the British Press, 1422–1992'', London and Basingstoke: Macmillan, 1992, p. 187 (renamed Kemsley Newspapers in 1937 when Camrose withdrew to concentrate his efforts on ''The Daily Telegraph''). A matchday programme or match programme is a booklet associated with a live sporting event which details the proposed starting lineup and other details of the match. To some spectators, the purchase of a matchday programme is part of the "ritual" of attending football and hurling matches in Britain and Ireland. Until 2018, the printing of matchday programmes was compulsory for English Football League games. Souvenir programmes are also collected as sports memorabilia, and rare FA Cup Final matchday programmes have fetched in excess of £35,000 at auction houses such as Sotheby's. ''Match of the Day'' (abbreviated to ''MOTD'') is a football highlights programme, typically broadcast on BBC One on Saturday nights, during the Premier League season. The show's current presenter is former England international striker Gary Lineker. It is one of the BBC's longest-running shows, having been on air since 22 August 1964. Des Lynam
Desmond Michael Lynam, (born 17 September 1942) is an Irish-born television and radio presenter. In a broadcasting career spanning more than forty years, he has hosted television coverage of many of the world's major sporting events, presenting '' Grandstand'', ''Match of the Day'', Wimbledon, the Grand National, ''Sportsnight'', the World Cup and Olympic Games, as well as presenting non-sporting programmes such as ''Holiday'', ''How Do They Do That?'' and ''Countdown''.
