Albert Niemann (tenor)
Albert Wilhelm Karl Niemann (15 January 1831 – 13 January 1917) was a leading German tenor opera singer especially associated with the operas of Richard Wagner. He gave important premieres in France, Germany, England and the United States, and played Siegmund in the first complete production of ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' (Bayreuth Festspielhaus 1876). Early career Born in Erxleben, in the Prussian Province of Saxony (now Saxony-Anhalt), Niemann lost his father (an innkeeper) at an early age and was brought up by his mother, a woman 'of almost unwomanly hardness' who lived to be ninety. He was apprenticed to an engine-maker, but ran away to Dresden to make his own life. He grew up with a Germanic dedication to hunting but also student-like, reading extensively in science, history and philosophy. Franz Betz
Franz Betz (19 March 1835 – 11 August 1900) was a German bass-baritone opera singer who sang at the Berlin State Opera from 1859 to 1897. He was particularly known for his performances in operas by Richard Wagner and created the role of Hans Sachs in ''Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg''. Biography Franz Betz was born in Mainz and trained as a singer in Karlsruhe. He made his debut in 1856 at the Court Theater of Hanover as The Herald in Wagner's ''Lohengrin'', after which he sang as a guest performer in various other German opera houses. Marie Lehmann (soprano)
Marie Lehmann (15 May 1851 – 19 December 1931) was a German operatic soprano. She had a coloratura soprano voice, but also appeared in Wagner operas, including the first complete performance of his ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' at the inaugural Bayreuth Festival in 1876, playing one of the Rhinemaidens. Career Marie Lehmann was born in Hamburg, the daughter of the soprano Maria Theresia Löw and the heldentenor Karl August Lehmann, and the sister of Lilli Lehmann. Her mother trained the girls, working in Prague. Lehmann made her stage debut at the Leipzig Opera in 1867 as Ännchen in Weber's ''Der Freischütz'', where she was engaged until 1869. Johanna Jachmann-Wagner or Johanna Wagner (13 October 1828 – 16 October 1894) was a mezzo-soprano singer, tragédienne in theatrical drama, and teacher of singing and theatrical performance who won great distinction in Europe during the third quarter of the 19th century. She was a niece of the composer Richard Wagner and was the original performer, and in some respects the inspiration, of the character of Elisabeth in ''Tannhäuser (opera), Tannhäuser''. Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld (2 July 183621 July 1865) was a German Heldentenor. He is best known creating the role of Tristan in Wagner's opera ''Tristan und Isolde'' at its 1865 premiere at the Bavarian court opera in Munich. His career was curtailed by a serious illness which killed him at the age of 29, after only four performances in the role of Tristan. Biography Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld was born in Munich, a son of the famous painter Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, and nephew of artist Ludwig Ferdinand Schnorr von Carolsfeld. A (German for "master singer") was a member of a German guild for lyric poetry, composition and unaccompanied art song of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries.
