Albert Hecht
Albert Hecht (Brussels, 2 July 1842 - Paris, 21 August 1889) was a French banker, dealer and art collector, considered one of the leading Impressionist collectors of the time. Early life Hecht was born in Brussels to Maurice Hecht (born in Bad Dürkheim in 1814 and died in Paris in 1891), also an art collector, and his wife, Jeanne Kohn. Hecht had two brothers Myrtil and Henri. He and Henri built a private collection of hundreds of artworks, mainly Impressionist. Hecht was friends with Édouard Manet, who art he also collected. He also befriended Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Hecht died at the age of 47 in Paris. He bequeathed his large private collection to his daughter Suzanne Hecht Pontremoli. The latter had married the well-known French architect Emmanuel Pontremoli. Édouard Manet (, ; ; 23 January 1832 â€“ 30 April 1883) was a French modernist painter. He was one of the first 19th-century artists to paint modern life, as well as a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism. Born into an upper-class household with strong political connections, Manet rejected the naval career originally envisioned for him; he became engrossed in the world of painting. His early masterworks, ''The Luncheon on the Grass'' (''Le déjeuner sur l'herbe'') and '' Olympia'', both 1863, caused great controversy and served as rallying points for the young painters who would create Impressionism. Today, these are considered watershed paintings that mark the start of modern art. The last 20 years of Manet's life saw him form bonds with other great artists of the time; he developed his own simple and direct style that would be heralded as innovative and serve as a major influence for future painters.
