Albert Hauf
Albert Guillem Hauf i Valls (Sóller, Mallorca, Spain 1938) is a Majorcan philologist, literature historian and literary critic. He is a specialist in Catalan language, Catalan and Occitan language, Occitan medieval literature. Life He graduated in romance Philology in the University of Barcelona, with a grant from the Joan March Ordinas, Joan March Foundation. His degree dissertation consisted of an edition of the Aragonese language, Aragonese text of the ''Agriculture Treatise'' of Palladius Rutilius Emilianus. In the same university he obtained his PhD, which was supervised by professor Martí de Riquer, with a thesis on the ''Vita Christi'', a work of the medieval Catalan writer Francesc Eiximenis, and the medieval tradition of the ''Vitae Christi''. This work received the ''Nicolau d'Olwer'' prize (given by the Institute of Catalan Studies, IEC) in 1977. Sóller
Sóller () is a town and municipality near the north west coast of the Balearic Island of Mallorca, Spain, 3 km inland from Port de Sóller, in a large, bowl-shaped valley that also includes the village of Fornalutx and the hamlets of Biniaraix and Binibassi. The population is around 14,000. The ''Tranvía de Sóller'' tram links Sóller to Port de Sóller. Isabel De Villena
Isabel de Villena (c.1430-Valencia, Crown of Aragon, 1490) was the illegitimate child of Enrique de Villena an unknown noblewoman who rose to become the abbess of the Real Monasterio de la Trinidad of Valencia. As the first major female writer of a work done in the Valencian language, she composed a number of religious treaties. Her most famous work was her ''Vita Christi'' (Christ's Life). She was also a proto-feminist who tried to change the negative image of women at the time through her writing. ''Tirant lo Blanch'' ( ; modern spelling: ''Tirant lo Blanc'') is a chivalric romance written by the Valencian knight Joanot Martorell, finished posthumously by his friend Martí Joan de Galba and published in the city of Valencia in 1490 as an incunabulum edition. The title means "Tirant the White" and is the name of the romance's main character who saves the Byzantine Empire. It is one of the best known medieval works of literature in Valencian. It is considered a masterpiece in the Valencian literature and in the literature in Catalan language as a whole, and it played an important role in the evolution of the Western novel through its influence on the author Miguel de Cervantes. Joanot Martorell
Joanot Martorell (; c. 1410 – 1465) was a Valencian knight and writer, best known for authoring the novel ''Tirant lo Blanch'', written in Valencian and published at Valencia in 1490. This novel is often regarded as one of the peaks of the literature in Catalan language and it played a major role in influencing later writers such as Miguel de Cervantes, who, in the book burning scene of Don Quixote, says "I swear to you, my friend, this (Tirant lo Blanch) is the best book of its kind in the world". The novel deals with the adventures of a knight in the Byzantine Empire; it is considered one of the first works of alternate history. Martorell apparently was a chivalrous man and suffered an early death due to court intrigue, leaving the novel unfinished. Joan Fuster i Ortells (; 23 November 1922 – 21 June 1992) was an influential Spanish writer. He is considered a major writer in the Valencian language (a dialect of the Catalan language), and his work contributed to reinvigorate left-wing, pro-Catalan nationalism in Valencia during the Spanish transition to democracy. In his influential political essay Nosaltres, els valencians (1962) he coined the term ''Països Catalans'' (Catalan Countries) to refer to the Catalan-speaking territories.
