Albert Collins (painter)
Albert E. Collins (1883 – 26 July 1951) was an Australian painter, teacher and actor born in New Zealand. After a successful career in painting and teaching he joined ABC radio, where he gave pleasure to a generation of children as "Joe" of the Children's Session and the main character in the long-running serial " The Wide-awake Bunyip". Teaching career Albert Collins was born in New Zealand,''The Golden Age of the Argonauts'' Rob Johnson, Hodder & Stoughton 1997 and in 1906 left to teach drawing at Abbotsleigh School for Girls in Wahroonga where he continued taking classes until 1912. Among his students was Grace Cossington Smith He also taught at Redlands School, Cremorne from 1913–1916. The Society of Artists was an influential Sydney based group of progressive artists who staged annual exhibitions from 1895 to the 1960s. The Society included many of Australia's best artists of the time. It lapsed during the mid 1960s. History In 1888 the artist Tom Roberts established the Victorian Artists' Society but he and Arthur Streeton moved to Sydney in 1891 during an economic depression in Melbourne. Percival (, also spelled Perceval, Parzival), alternatively called Peredur (), was one of King Arthur's legendary Knights of the Round Table. Roy De Maistre CBE (27 March 18941 March 1968) was an Australian artist of international fame. He is renowned in Australian art for his early experimentation with "colour-music", and is recognised as the first Australian artist to use pure abstraction. His later works were painted in a figurative style generally influenced by Cubism. His ''Stations of the Cross'' series hangs in Westminster Cathedral and works of his are hung in the Tate Gallery, London and in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney. Roland Wakelin
Roland Wakelin (17 April 1887 – 28 May 1971) was a New Zealand-born Australian painter and teacher. Early life Roland Shakespeare Wakelin was born on 17 April 1887 in Greytown, New Zealand. He studied at Wellington Technical School from 1902 to 1903. Shortly after, while working in the Land and Income Tax Department, he took night classes in painting under Henri Bastings. In 1908 and 1909, he visited his brother in Sydney then in 1912 joined him, then enrolled in the Royal Art Society School to study drawing and painting under Dattilo Rubbo alongside fellow students Smith, Norah Simpson and Roy de Maistre. Career In 1913, he started working at the New South Wales Land Tax Office. James Muir Auld
James Muir Auld (19 June 1879 – 8 June 1942) was an Australian artist. His works are signed J. Muir Auld. Auld was born in Ashfield, New South Wales, third son of Presbyterian minister, Reverend John Auld (–1912) and his wife, Georgina née Muir. Auld attended Ashfield Public School and later, Sydney Grammar School. He worked as a clerk for the Ashfield Borough Council and enrolled in night classes in drawing at Ashfield Technical School. He spent spare time drawing and sketching the foreshores of Sydney Harbour. Artistic career Auld studied under J. S. Fred Britton
Frederick Christian Britton (21 May 1889 – 14 December 1931) was an artist and arts educator in South Australia and New South Wales. History Britton was born in Peckham, London and studied painting at the Brook Green School of Art, then the Slade School of Fine Art, London under Professor Henry Tonks and the Hammersmith School of Arts and Crafts. In 1908 he served as official artist for Flinders Petrie's archaeological expedition to Egypt and moved to Adelaide, South Australia in 1910 or 1911, and joined the staff of the South Australian School of Art under J. Lloyd Frederic Rees (17 March 18952 December 1988) was an Australian landscape painter who twice won the Wynne Prize for his landscape paintings. Most of Rees's works are preoccupied with depicting the effects of light and emphasis is placed on the harmony between man and nature. Adrian George Feint (28 June 1894 – 25 April 1971) was an Australian artist. He worked in various media, and is noted for his bookplate designs.
