Albert Broomham
Albert Frederick Broomham (1885–1948) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s. He represented New South Wales rugby league team, New South Wales and Australia national rugby league team, Australia. Background Broomham was born in St. Leonards, New South Wales, in 1885. Playing career Broomham was a Norths rugby union convert who joined the North Sydney Bears, North Sydney rugby league club at the new code's foundation in 1908 as a wing three-quarter. Broomham played seven seasons with the North Sydney Bears, North Sydney club between 1908 and 1914. He missed the first Kangaroo Tour after making his State debut in 1908. He then toured New Zealand and played three Tests with the Kangaroos in 1909, and then played two Tests against England in 1910. 1914 NSWRFL Season
The 1914 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the seventh season of Sydney's top-grade rugby league football club competition, Australia's first. Eight teams from across the city contested during the season. The 1914 season's gate receipts totalled £24,072, which was £7,038 more than the previous season's. Season summary Following the retirement of Dally Messenger at the end of the 1913 season, Eastern Suburbs’ stranglehold on the premiership came to an end. In their place, previous premiers South Sydney and Newtown took control of the competition. Newtown were in a good position to take out their second premiership midway through the season but a loss to middle-placed Balmain hurt their cause, although Newtown defeated South Sydney the following week. It turned out that the Balmain loss would make the difference, with South Sydney finishing just one point ahead of Newtown at the end of the season to claim their third premiership. Kangaroo Tour
Kangaroo Tour is the name given to Australian national rugby league team tours of Great Britain and France, tours to New Zealand and the one-off tour to Papua New Guinea (1991). The first Kangaroo Tour was in 1908. Traditionally, Kangaroo Tours took place every four years and involved a three-Test Rugby League Ashes, Ashes series against Great Britain Lions, Great Britain (sometimes called Northern Union or The Lions) and a number of tour matches. The 1911/12 and 1921/22 tours were by the Australasia rugby league team, Australasian Kangaroos as both teams included New Zealand players. Some Kangaroo tours to Great Britain and France also included international friendly matches against Wales national rugby league team, Wales, though these games were not given test match status.
