Albergaria-a-Velha () is a town and a Municipalities of Portugal, municipality in the Aveiro District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 25,252, in an area of 158.83 km². It had 19,687 eligible voters in 2006. History In 1117, Theresa, Countess of Portugal, D. Teresa, Countess of Portucale, and mother of Afonso Henriques the first king of Portugal, donated to the nobleman Gonçalo Eriz the lands that constitute Albergaria-a-Velha. As part of the donation the nobleman was obligated to maintain open a hospice for poor travels. The document referred to this shelter for the travelling poor, or ''albergaria'', and thus the area was known as ''Albergaria''. Later, the ''Carta do Couto de Osselôa'' was discovered that definitely identified both the first document to refer to Portugal as a ''monarchy, Kingdom'' and at the same figured in the identification of Albergaria-a-Velha as an administrative unit of the country. Angeja
Angeja is a civil parish in the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha, in the Portuguese Centro region. In 2011, there were 2073 inhabitants in an area of . History The presence of Greeks and Phoenicians presuppose the Roman occupation in the territory, but it was in 1166 that the first reference Angeja appeared, in the form of ''ANSEGIA''. Angeja obtained a foral from King D. Manuel I on 15 August 1514, that included the lands of Assequins, Bemposta, Branca, Canelas, Casais de Grijó, Casais do Ribeiro, Contumil, Devesa, Fermelã, Figueiredo, Fonte Chã, Pinheiro, Salreu and Santiães. Initially, this territory was part of the ''Terras de Santa Maria'' (''Lands of Santa Maria''), commonly known as ''Terras da Feira'' (''Lands of the Fair''), which were incorporated into coat-of-arms. Estarreja Municipality
Estarreja ( or ) is a municipality in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 26,997, in an area of 108.17 km2. It had 22,746 eligible voters in 2006. The only city in the municipality is Estarreja, which is in the urban parish of Beduido. The city itself has a population of approximately 7,000.
