Albatross Bay
Albatross Bay is a bay on the eastern shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland, Australia. Geography The bay is offshore from the localities of Mission River (in both Shire of Cook and Aboriginal Shire of Napranum), a number of localities in Weipa Town ( Rocky Point, Trunding, Nanum, Evans Landing) and Aurukun (in the Shire of Aurukun). Weipa
Weipa () is a coastal mining town in the local government area of Weipa Town in Queensland. It is the largest town on the Cape York Peninsula. It exists because of the enormous bauxite deposits along the coast. The Port of Weipa is mainly involved in exports of bauxite. There are also shipments of live cattle from the port. In the , Weipa had a population of 3,899 people. Geography Weipa is on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula facing the Gulf of Carpentaria. Weipa is just south of Duyfken Point, which was named by Matthew Flinders on 8 November 1802 after the ship ''Duyfken'' commanded by the Dutch explorer Willem Janszoon. Aurukun, Queensland
Aurukun is a town and coastal locality in the Shire of Aurukun and the Shire of Cook in Far North Queensland, Australia. It is an Indigenous community. John Douglas (Queensland Politician)
John Douglas (6 March 1828 – 23 July 1904) was an Anglo-Australian politician and Premier of Queensland. Early life Douglas was born in London, the seventh son of Henry Alexander Douglas and his wife Elizabeth Dalzell, daughter of the Earl of Carnwath. His father, the third son of Sir William Douglas, 4th Baronet of Kelhead, was a brother of the sixth and seventh Marquesses of Queensberry. Douglas' parents died in 1837, he was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Rugby 1843-47 and Durham University where he graduated B.A. in 1850. Douglas arrived in New South Wales with his brother Edward in 1851 and was appointed a gold-fields commissioner, but gave this up to enter on a pastoral life. Politics Douglas was elected member for the Darling Downs and afterwards for Camden in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly until resigning on 17 July 1861. He moved to Queensland in 1863. The Embley River is a river located in Far North Queensland, Australia. The headwaters of the river rise on the coastal plain of the Cape York Peninsula and flow in a north westerly direction eventually discharging at Evans Landing into Albatross Bay near Nanum just south of Weipa and into the Gulf of Carpentaria. The river has a catchment area of of which an area of is composed of estuarine wetlands. From source to mouth, the Embley River is joined by five tributaries including the Hey River. The Shire of Aurukun is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Australia. The shire covers part of western Cape York Peninsula, the most northerly section of the Australian mainland. It covers an area of , and has existed as a local government area since 1978. History According to the earliest records, Cape Keerweer, located on the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, was the first site where Europeans wished to settle in Australia.
