Alba is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Antrim County, Michigan, Antrim County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located just north of Mancelona, Michigan, Mancelona along U.S. Route 131, Alba is divided between Star Township, Michigan, Star Township on the east and Chestonia Township, Michigan, Chestonia Township on the west. History Alba was first settled as a flag station named Cascade along the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad in 1876. At the time, it was part of Forest Home Township, Michigan. A post office opened on December 4, 1877, and the village was platted the next year. The name was changed to Alba in 1884 after local entertainer Alba Haywood. Mancelona, Michigan
Mancelona ( ) is a village in the Northern Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Part of Mancelona Township, the village is located within Antrim County. Its population was 1,344 at the 2020 census. History In 1869, Perry Andress established a homestead in the area, naming it after his daughter, Mancelona Andress. Two years later, the Township of Mancelona was established, and named after her as well. In 1872, an extension of the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad was extended through the area, and a station called Mancelona was established. In 1882, an organization by the name of "John Otis & Company" built a large charcoal furnace just south of Mancelona. The company also platted a town around the furnace, naming it "Furnaceville". Soon after this, the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad built a station at that town.
